Digital Island will use Novell's Internet Caching System technology to improve the performance of its Web servers.
The Footprint content delivery service distributes content close to users through a very large network of edge-deployed caches, which allows it to be retrieved more quickly, Digital Island said. The company said the Internet Caching System complements the Footprint infrastructure by adding origin server acceleration and intelligent preparation of Web content by dynamically translating URLs.
Simon Khalaf, vice president and general manager of Net Content Services, Novell said the combination of Footprint and Internet Caching System will improve the scalability of the origin Web server.
