Gregory Maffei is taking his finance experience with Microsoft and heading over to Oracle.
The enterprise database company said Maffei will take over as CFO as of July. He will also oversee Oracle's legal department, human resources, manufacturing and distribution and global real
estate.
The former CFO for Microsoft from July 1997 to January 2000 said he is thrilled about the new position.

Maffei leaves his position as chairman and CEO of 360networks, where
he has worked since leaving Microsoft in January 2000. The company is a regional fiber optic network provider to telephone companies, businesses and
federal agencies. He has also served as chairman of the board for Expedia
before it was bought
up by USA Interactive in March 2003.
360networks officials were not available for comment on Maffei's departure.
The company's Web site still displays Maffei as chairman and CEO.
Maffei joins Oracle at a time when it is working hard to assimilate several
recent high profile acquisitions into its software stack.
The software company picked
up data management provider TimesTen earlier this month to move more
into the financial services and telecommunications market. More notable has
been Oracle's bitter and strung out acqusition of
PeopleSoft in January. The company also won in a bidding
war with SAP to purchase retail software vendor Retek
in March.
Larry Ellison, Oracle CEO, said Maffei's experience will help the company
moving forward.
"Greg is an exceptional executive with a wealth of experience in the
software and telecommunications industries," he said in a statement. "The
entire senior management team is looking forward to working with Greg."
