Oracle completed the first leg of its plan to finish PeopleSoft projects that were underway before it acquired the enterprise software vendor.
The database software vendor delivered a new release of PeopleSoft
Enterprise Performance Management, Wednesday. Version 8.9 is one of the projects for 2005 that Oracle told PeopleSoft customers and partners that it would complete as part of its Project
Fusion roadmap.
Fusion was one of Oracle's selling points to assure PeopleSoft and JD
Edwards customers that they would not need to junk their legacy systems
any time soon. Oracle is expected update the rest of PeopleSoft
Enterprise this year. Next year, Oracle has promised to deliver
PeopleSoft Enterprise version 9.0 and JD Edwards EnterpriseOne version
8.12 along with incremental patches before it combines all of its
platforms into one super-software platform in 2013.
Meantime, Oracle said the new Enterprise Performance Management 8.9
comes with pre-packaged content such as analytical maps, models and
metrics so it touches pretty much every aspect of the Enterprise
Resource Planning (ERP) cycle: Customer Relationship Management,
Financial Management, Human Capital Management and Supply Chain
Management.
In addition, Oracle said version 8.9 takes data from PeopleSoft
Enterprise, JD Edwards EnterpriseOne and JD Edwards World and sources it
into a single warehouse environment.
The latest PeopleSoft release also comes with more than 200
predefined Web services-based (define) performance meters
so users of other applications can access to the analytical content. For
example, authorized users can monitor and track how well their Microsoft
Office applications are doing, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and
Outlook.
Oracle said the underlying infrastructure of the new PeopleSoft
application has been simplified with a single data movement tool from
Ascential Software. The new metadata management enhancements include a
metadata console so managers can quickly understand warehouse structures
and content.
Version 8.9 also has better integration between Enterprise
Performance Management and PeopleSoft Internal Controls Enforcer, a
compliance offering. Oracle said the improvement is good for
multinational companies that need to manage multiple reporting
structures for both U.S. GAAP and international accounting standards.
In addition, a major new feature to PeopleSoft Global Consolidations
focuses on compliance reporting requirements. The software captures
activities that affect account balances and provides instant audit
trails. For example, if an organization retires or sells a particular
asset, that activity can be tracked and noted, Oracle said.
Oracle did not disclose its pricing structure or upgrade procedure
for PeopleSoft Enterprise Performance Management 8.9.
