to the European market.

Virata, which is notable for having trademarked much
of the periodic table -- including the names Azurite,
Beryllium, Boron, Helium, Lithium and Magnesium --
is launching its Azurite Voice IAD (Integrated Access
Device) chipset and Magnesium Voice Processor in
Europe in the coming weeks.
With local loop unbundling taking place across
Europe, the broadband industry is beginning to take
off. Virata's technology will enable manufacturers
and carriers to offer their customers high-speed
Internet access over DSL with many features such
as multiple voice channels, voice mail and
conferencing.

Charles Cotton, Virata's chief executive officer,
said that equipment manufacturers and service
providers in Europe are queuing up to provide
DSL products.
"The competition for market share promises to be
intense with depth and quality of features making
the difference between the winners and the losers,"
said Cotton.

Virata provides a chipset tested and pre-integrated
with software, making it quick and easy for
manufacturers to develop fully featured DSL products.
David Moorhouse, Virata's director of product management,
claims the Virata Voice IAD chipset offers up to 40
percent cost savings over multi-vendor solutions.
In Europe, Virata already supplies broadband technology to
manufacturing giants Ericsson and Siemens -- and is
now looking to expand its customer base on the continent.
Starting in June, Virata is running a series of
seminars across the United States, the Far East
and in France, England, Germany, and Italy. The seminars
are targeted at engineers who design and implement VoDSL
applications for the broadband market.
