Yahoo and TiVo announced Monday they have teamed
to allow TiVo users to remotely program their digital video
recorders using Yahoo's television Web site.
Beginning today, users can log onto a computer and use the Yahoo site to set
TiVo to record TV programs. The deal helps TiVo move beyond the relative
static realm of simple recording services now being offered in many
quarters and gives the DVR provider access to a host of content and
Internet services.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The companies also plan to make some Yahoo services, including photos,
traffic, and weather, available as part of the TiVo service, according to
Yahoo Spokeswoman Lynne Hentemann.
"Working with Yahoo is another way for us to deliver the best way to watch
television and give viewers control of the television experience," Tom
Rogers, CEO of TiVo, said in a statement. "Beginning
today, we're giving Yahoo users –- whether they're at the office or away from
home –- the ability to easily schedule recordings for later viewing."

Currently Yahoo TV offers information on show times, program descriptions
and cast photographs, as well as exclusive content like information from
"Entertainment Tonight" and Mark Burnett Productions, which produces "The
Apprentice."
Subscribers with a TiVo Series2 box and a standard Yahoo ID may use the
service, the companies said.
The deal, however, does not include providing TiVo users with access to view
the programming over the Internet. But it does give Yahoo
another opportunity to move its services to other devices.
In July Yahoo
expanded the search capabilities for users with its launch of Yahoo SMS Search and enhanced Search on Mobile.
