Okay so i'm 19, I listen to Jazz and Metal, if you were to see me on the street you would probably think i'm some kind of satanic bad person, but no i'm a nice normal person who just likes to dress like that, anyway, I listen to ALL KINDS of music, I don't care what the genre because all I care about is how well done the music is, but why is it that if me as a metal head listen to a girl singer like Amy Winehouse, or a girl singer like Britney Spears I get criticized? sometimes my friends who ONLY like rap will go through my music and find some spanish love songs or jazz, or Hilary Duff etc., stuff that you wouldn't expect a rocker to have and they make fun of me for it, and that really bugs me because those singers are famous for a REASON because there music is something that people like, why is it that it's okay for a teenage girl to like or listen to that music but it's "UNNACCEPTABLE" for someone like me to listen to that?
are those guys so self-conscience about there own masculinity that they have to criticize me just because I like Metallica AND let's say Beyonce?

You get criticized for listening to Britney Spears and Hilary Duff because they're Pop artists, and because of how Pop music's singer's vocals and how it's portrayed in the media, people consider it a girly thing. For example, they use Pop music for Bratz doll commercials and many more girly things. Believe it, I'm watching a Bratz commercial right now, and it sounds like a girl singing the typical Pop song, a genre that typically gets tweenagers (children 10 -12) in party mode. Therefore, people view Pop music as a girly thing, so a guy listening to Pop music would be a little different for them. I wouldn't judge you however. ^____^ GENDER DIFFERENCES IN MULTITASKING:: May 5, 2006 The test facilitator played music from a CD and rang a small bell. Are you a teenager? I think it's probably because teenagers are immature (if that's the case) or that your image is so different that they are surprised that you like other genres. It's a form of stereotyping.
