We are being relocated to the Houston area and until my house sells here in Shreveport, we must rent a home there.
We have a 3 yo rottweiler who is the biggest baby. She and my 5yo daughter are growing up together and it would break my heart to lose her or separate the two of them.
What are the chances (probably slim to none) that I will be able to find a rental property that allows them? No. Managed an apartment community for four years. Texas has a law against aggressive breeds living in multi-family communities. Try a rental property.
Most apartments have size or breed restrictions.. you can call around to different apartments that are "pet friendly" to see. Dave Barry's Blog: DALLAS APARTMENT-DWELLING COBRAS UPDATE:: TxGal, there are two types of drivers in Houston, the quick and the dead. of very hot snakes (or rottweilers, automatic weapons, automobiles, offspring. http://blogs.herald.com/dave_barrys_blog/2004/04/dallas_apartmen.htmlHOME |
You may be better off to seek a rental home, townhouse, or duplex instead of an apartment.. they seem to be more lienient on renting to people with pets than most apartments are.
Your best bet is to look for a rental house....the landlords will be more willing to work with you....apartments probably not....I know here in Nashville most don't allow...Rotties, dobermans, pit bulls, chow chows, or any mix of those breeds. Its hard to find an apartment that allows large dogs as it is. Look for a rental home that is your best bet
Most apartment complexes will allow dogs, but there is a weight limit. You would be better off renting a home from a private owner. Either way, be prepared to pay a $300-$400 deposit, most of which you will not get back.
The bigger problem will be finding a place to rent in Houston. After Hurricane Ike, vacancies in places with decent rent in good areas are hard to find. Get an apartment locator to steer you in the right direction and tell you which areas of town to avoid.
