My yorkie did not bark for the first 7-8 months either. If you want him to bark, go to YouTube and play one of the Barking Dog videos, I guarantee you, he will bark. I did this and it works! I will warn you though there will many times that you may wish you had left him quiet. LOL! A thought provoking read!::

ya...they start as soon as they can vocalize. In addition to normal puppy noises they should get the idea ( and many then just love to hear themselves bark) by at least 2-3 months. I would go to the vet to check this out if he really cannot bark....peculiar. It could be he just has nothing to say, but I just can't imagine that seeing he is a Chi!! LOL Best of luck!

Be thankful. Some dogs never shut up:) Anyway, some dogs are barkers and some not.
There's no specific age of when any kind of dog will bark. A friend owns a poodle and the dog jsut barks away since he was 3 months old, while her other dog, only starting barkeing when she was 2 years old.
So count yourself lucky that your dog isn't barking yet. Because they can become quite a pain to hear all the time.
