Sorry I went off on you a bit...but with me being English and my wife half Cherokee, Holywood storys are sometimes are sore subject with us!!

  • I hope they make the English a bunch of evil pricks like The Patriot.

  • Hopefully the script writers will have a better command of facts than the person who wrote the article...the 1950 team was NOT a team composed "chiefly of working class immigrants." Only 3 players on that team were not born in the U.S.

If they cast Schwartzenegger to play Walt Bahr you know we're in trouble. ;)

We don't "hate" Hollywood...we hate it when history is completely changed...this movie looks great...hope it works out...

I think with your attitude you would be at home with them

Some English are evil pricks especially if you look at the Royalist beauracracy of the past..why do you think I moved to America? Yes, we did have a bloody past, but, we don't hide it and write revisionist histories to make people feel good...I think you should ask your own American Indians about that!!

And you should at least give the Enlglish credit for one thing...we did develop this great game we talk about on here...

  • Should be interesting. I sure hope it's better than that "A shot at glory" movie with Robert Duvall. Is that even what it was called? Man, that was a total piece.

Being part American-Indian I think I will, but I was just kidding. I think The Patriot was pretty absurd with the evil Englishmen.

  • I wish we could have a Director like Englishman, Ken Loach. He's everything but Hollywood.

  • I'd been hearing rumors about this movie being made. I'm guessing that recent success of the US team in Korea, Douglas was able to can the previous deal and sell the story to a producer with a bit more money.

  • When I saw Austin Powers, before the movie started and the ads were showing, a Galaxy ad would come up every 5 minutes or so. I hope the Galaxy didn't have to pay for this, because it was an Anschutz owned theatre. BUt if they did have to pay for it, it's a good sign that they're advertising.

Anybody else seen an ad like this for other AEG teams at AEG theatres?

True. That was a fantasy based on a bit of history: the enforced quartering of English troops in american homes, the use of "hirelings" (the Hessians, for example) to suppress the rebellion, the ruthless execution of beaten colonials in the Long Island - Brooklyn battles, and the reputation of "No-Quarter" Tarleton in the Carolinas. So Hollywood mixes a few incidents (ignoring a few colonial missdeeds along the way) and turns the Brits into Nazi Einsatzgruppen on the Eastern Front. Sells more tickets, I guess.

Regarding the US treatment of American Indians: guilty, nearly beyond redemption. Ironically, in the 1890's Dvorak was teaching here in the States, encouraging composers to work from our rich, native roots: indian songs, negro spirituals, etc. Meanwhile, the 1890's marked the high-water mark of the official effort to eradicate indian culture: language, dance, arts, everything. Some ironies hurt too much to prompt even the whisper of a smile.

I think the answer to global warming is to turn US land management over to the native Americans, restoring as much of the tribal lands as possible. Except for a sudden explosion in the number of casinos across the country, we could do worse -- and probably are.

  • One more reason for the English to hate Hollywood.

  • I guess the previous production with Wayne Wang as director and Joseph Tropiano as screenwriter never got off the ground.
