AT&T Chairman and CEO Dave Dorman won't be around for long
after Ma Bell's multi-billion-dollar sale to SBC closes next month.

The 51-year-old will become president and a director at the combined company
"for a brief transition period, after which he will resign from both
positions," according to an SBC statement issued Thursday.
Dorman, who engineered the sale of the venerable company, which was
struggling because of sliding long-distance revenues, will stay on, however,
as a consultant to the new company, which will go by the AT&T name.

Edward Whitacre, SBC's chairman and CEO, will also be chairman and CEO at the
telecom giant and is drawing on executives from both companies during and
after the integration.
"This is a superior management team. They are the best in the industry, and
I am confident they will do an outstanding job at this critical time in our
company's history," Whitacre said in a statement. "We are looking forward to
hitting the ground running the minute the merger closes."
Other key executives include Forrest Miller who will be group president
of AT&T. Miller will oversee the network, enterprise and consumer operations
of the existing AT&T, as well as AT&T Labs. He will also help lead the
integration.
Randall Stephenson will be COO, retaining his current responsibilities
and also helping combine the two companies.
