She got a weight problem I know, current on shots and gets her heart worm pill monthly. Also adopted her back last spring from a breeder. Should I be concerned?
What grade heart murmur does your dog have??
That depends on how severe the heart murmur is, and what the cause is. There are 'benign' heart murmurs that are harmless, and then there are murmurs that indicate a problem with the heart. Your vet can give you information on the type and severity of the murmur your dog has, whether it is something that needs to be treated, and what the long-term prognosis is. Getting the excess weight off of her will help take any extra burden off of her heart. Many dogs live long and happy lives with murmurs, just as many people do. She should receive regular checkups, just like other dogs, and the severity of the murmur should be evaluated at each checkup so the vet can recognize early on if it has gotten worse and act proactively to treat it before it threatens her health and life.
