I am trying to locate addresses, names and contact numbers of Campuses for Seniors/ the Elderly that may be located on the islands of the Caribbean. A tip will be provided for information on similar projects in other tropical regions around the world.

  • Campus may be interpreted in both the educational sense, or as a senior community model. Could you tell us which definition you are using? If you are seeking senior community options in the Caribbean, some preferences would be useful. For instance, language preferences, desirable level of ammenities (posh, comfortable, modest), and desired level of care available directly on those campuses. =l=

  • I am seeking senior community options in the Caribbean that would accommodate retirees from English speaking Europe and North America ie. Canada and the United States

  • With respect to ammenities I am looking for medium to upscale ammenities with and without care options.

  • Hello brudenell, After looking for a while at all the options that are available for living in a retirement community in the Caribbean, I am convinced that it would be a lovely choice. I have looked around and I have found some retirement communities on Caribbean islands, some on the mainland of the Caribbean, and some others in other tropical locations. I hope this is what you were looking for. There really aren’t that many of them online. • Thank you peggy_bill-ga Now you can see why I turned to Google Answers for assistance! Which of the retirement communities sites convinced you that living in the Caribbean would be a lovely choice? Which would you choose? What geographical location do you reside in (to give perspective to your answer). I know these are extra questions but I am curious about which ones impressed you the most. Thanks again for your work Best Regards Brudenell

  • Dear brudenell, At the moment, I live in Colorado. A beautiful state, but nowhere near the ocean. I used to live in the Southeast US, and spent a good bit of time at the beach, and have travelled to the tropical US, i.e. the southern Keys and Puerto Rico. I definately appreciate the tropical atmosphere, and can really see how it has potential for retirement. I found a lot of retirement communities in the U.S. There are quite a few in Florida. However, the really serious advantage the Caribbean and other areas south of the U.S. have is the lower cost of living. A US income can go can go much farther. I don't know when you intend to retire, but it appears that there is a trend in this market. I think that more and more communities for U.S. retirees are going to develop. I would like to address the question which areas interested me most, but I will have to get back to you on that. But, I did want to post this first. Glad I found iformation that was useful for you. pba

  • Part of my choice has to do with the quality of information available on the web. That isn't necessarily the best way to judge a retirment community. But, it is infomation. I think this is the begining of a web presence for retirement communities. I suspect there will be a lot more web information a year or two from now. Of the Retirement communities on the islands, I think that PALMETTO RIDGE {http://www.caribpro.com/pr/honres.htm} has its act together best. At least, its web page addresses more issues. It is clear that they are catering to North American retirees. It's web site mentions some important amenities, such as medical facilities. The Amber Isle retirement community intriqued me. But, I could never actually view the web page. I think they must have some serious website problems. I don't know if they will get it fixed anytime soon. But, the descriptions that I found made me want to see what they had...but, I never could. In general, it seems there are more communities available on the Caribbean mainland. They looked pretty nice. Looking back through the list, I thought they all looked pretty nice. I liked all the natural areas and parks that they mention in the Caribbean area. I do think this is a growing industry. And, I think that more and more are going to be popping up. Thank you so much for the tip. And, it has been a pleasure working with you. pba

  • Thanks for the summary. Hope we work together again!
