Whenever I use IE 6 and click somewhere in the scroll bar to scroll
the page down (i.e. not on the up/down arrows and not on the bar that
moves up and down) the page seems to scroll twice as much as it should
when usually it would scroll down so that the position of the last
sentence before the scroll was now right at the top of the page.
I'm running winxp, and using a portege 7200 mousepoint. I've tried
looking within the mouse control panel and there doesn't seem to be
anything there. Likewise tweakUI doesn't appear to have any relevent
settings. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver but
nothing. This didn't happen before, but I can't think what I could
have installed or changed in order for this to happen. It's extremely
annoying so has anyone got a fix? I'll throw in a small tip if a quick
fix is given. Thanks in advance! Hi Hummer,
Sorry that should have been in the list above, along with the 'reset
web settings' button within the internet options box as well.
Thanks!
Hey googlenut,
Yeah that's exactly what's happening - glad i'm not alone! I presume
since you posted a link to other people questioning the problem rather
than a solution you haven't been able to actually fix it yourself? If
you have let me know how you did it and the money's yours!

"Try this I'm not sure if this will work, but there is no harm trying.
Goto Control Panel > Mouse > Buttons. Set ' Scrolling Size' to
'Screen' & Check mark the 'Use Office97 Compatible scroll only'.
Play with it, hope it works."

Researchers, please feel free to help if you can - no need to feel
like you will be taking this question from me.

Another thought - Have another look at your mouse properties. I use a
Logitech mouse and under "buttons" I have "scrolling size" options and
I can choose the number of line that it will scroll at one time.

No, I haven't been able to fix it myself. We may have to wait until
Microsoft fixes it in a later update. Or maybe one of the other
researchers can figure it out.

Hello noggywoggy-ga,
I don?t think it?s your mouse settings. I?ve been having the same
problem and I thought it was my settings until I saw your question. I
then began to suspect it was a Microsoft problem. I did a search in
the communities at Microsoft.com and found a discussion about this
problem. It seems as though it may be related to one of the recent
Windows updates. Have you downloaded Windows updates recently?

Hi noggywoggy,
A quickie possibility:
Go to internet options / advanced tab / restore defaults
hummer
I think that's a manufacturer specific option as I don't have an
option like that in my mouse control panel. I don't even have a scroll
size option in the control panel and it only appears when I use
Microsoft's tweakUI powertoy, no matter what I set it to it doesn't
make a difference (i guess it's only to do with the wheel though -
which my one obviously doesn't have, tho it does have extra 'scroll
up/down' buttons in addition to the 'left/right click' buttons).
Hummer,
That's what I was referring to under tweakUI (it's not actually
available under the mouse control panel in my case). I'm afraid it
doesn't work either.
Noggy.
