PC #1 ---+ PC #2 ---+-- Router -- connection to ISP -- "The Internet" PC #3 ---+ where I have more than one PC, connected to a router. That is a "network" that I operate in my home. The router (and firewall) provides a connection to my Internet Service Provider (ISP). The ISP also has its own network with connections to "The Internet" (which I use for a fee). Each PC in my private network can access each other (without limit) and can also access the Internet (within limits established by my firewall). That is a simple example. Most companies have a more complex version of that (many more systems, perhaps more than one router, perhaps more than one ISP connection, and so on). Could you explain your question a bit more? "www" is not really a network. Are you asking about addresses that start with the letters "www", or are you asking about the World Wide Web? Are you asking for information about uses of the Internet other than the World Wide Web, such as file transfer and electronic mail?

I believe what you are asking is for examples of other protocols. The World Wide Web is the HTTP protocol. It encompasses websites. Another useful protocol is STMP which sends email, POP3 which receives email. If you're looking for other sources of information (and files) besides the WWW, I suggest Usenet (newsgroups.. as in NNTP protocol) which more information can be found at www.usenet.com. There is also FTP, IRC, and many many more. If this is going in the right direction and you want more information, please let me know.
