[London, ENGLAND] Global e-business services provider Teleglobe
announced Friday the start of its commercial content distribution
services using audio and video streaming.
Beginning February 24, Teleglobe will stream both live and
on-demand audio/video from Italy's Fashion Week shows for
international portal FashionWeb.net.
Other early customers for Teleglobe's commercial streaming services
are Italian news, audio and video portal Kataweb and multimedia
communications company Trip Multimedia.

FashionWeb.net Chief Executive Corrado Ricciardi said the new
medium would help to reach a broader professional audience and
better serve the fashion industry.

"With Teleglobe's streaming media services, we have the ability
to deliver rich images, present designer fabrics and illustrate
how designs flow. This provides designers, retailers and the media
new and improved methods to evaluate the designs and make selections,"
said Ricciardi.
Noting that the fashion industry is steeped in tradition, Ricciardi
went on to say that the new technology could help to bridge the
distance between the various groups of people involved in the
industry.
"In essence, we can bring new collections to a much larger audience,
in a controlled and targeted way as requested by the designers,"
said Ricciardi.
Besides fashion, Teleglobe is also streaming music files and a
live radio station broadcast for Kataweb, taking the audio
signal from Milan and streaming it throughout Italy and Spain.
One of the most developed webcasting portals in Italy, Kataweb
claims three million unique users and 253 million monthly page
views as of January 2001.
Teleglobe is currently expanding its already extensive network
through its GlobeSystem initiative, a multi-billion dollar
project that will increase its capacity 200-fold.
