I'm looking for an "easy to see" "large number" cell phone for my mother who is in a nursing home because they keep switching her room and so we can reach her when she is not in her room. Any suggestions? All the ones I've seen are designed very small and difficult for most elderly or individuals with poor vision.

  • Hi mollygirl-- It appears that large number pad cell phones are still on the drawing board. In the meantime, a voice-activated phone may provide a solution. The Motorola V. Series model 60c ( mentioned by robertskelton in the comments)offers a number of helpful features including voice-activation and a generally larger size. Check with cellular providers in your area for information about voice-activated phones that are compatible with their systems. Speech impairments and background noise can interfere and they demand a lot of battery power requiring more frequent charging depending on the model. A nice side benefit is that you don't have to remember the numbers - just the names. Motorola v60 http://ineedacellphone.ca/personal.htm MobilePAL, available with or without GPS Location technology, is hearing aid compatible and has one large, button that connects the caller with a live trained operator who has a list of contacts you request by name. With the account password they will dial any phone number you request. THE PHONE IS FOR OUTGOING CALLS ONLY, HOWEVER. But surprisingly, the monthly service charge is less than a regular cell phone. The flat per minute rate is higher than typical cell phone plan rates but it also includes long distance, roaming, and taxes so there are no surprises. http://www.mobile911alarms.com/ Search strategy: cell phone + "large number" "large keypad" "handicapped" "visually impaired" blind, "special needs" Nellie Bly Google Answers Researcher
