Ok, last year we had a valve job done on our truck ( truck is a 91 GMC w/ about 180k). Now the truck had not been used much that year and to be honest it sat most of the time. Anyhow, the trucks main purpose is to haul horses and hay. Now on warm days and going up hills it wants to over heat. It will not haul anything due to it wants to red line. The temp. wants to run at about 215 all the time. We have since put in a two new thermostat, new clutch fan, had the radiator taken in and cleaned was 1/3 plugged, and we put in a new water pump. And it is still overheating. So is there something we are missing? Did the guy who did the valve job screw up? Please help we are running out of money. I know you said you changed out a bunch of things but one more thig you could try before dumping alot more money have you changed out your radiator cap?
is there bubbles coming up under radiator cap? if there is it is the head gasket (you did get the head planed didnt you?) or a cracked/porous head. if not then it sounds like your mechanic could have run it without water and warped the engine block(but don't tell him that). if you stay friends with him maybe he would put in a secondhand engine from a crashed model which would almost certainly be the cheapest way out in the long run. the only way of botching it would be to get the block line bored.
