I need to find the quietest electric razor available,as my husband is sensitive to noise-he has dementia and is causing problems with wetshaving.

  • I have found several models of shavers that are described as having low noise levels. ====================================================================== Norelco 561 X Electric Shaver "It is by far the quietest razor I’ve ever heard, and much quieter than foil shavers overall. My wife has an electric toothbrush that’s much louder. Amount Paid (US$): 56.00 Noise Level: Almost noiseless" User review at Epinions http://www.epinions.com/well-review-3FB8-4CA3A1AA-3A4A7171-prod6 ====================================================================== Norelco Quadra 6885 XL Electric Shaver "After charging this razor, I was surprised at how quiet it was. This razor was a lot quieter that my Braun. Amount Paid (US$): 129.00 Noise Level: Almost noiseless" User review at Epinions http://www.epinions.com/well-review-1C90-4BA44022-3A5BB1FB-prod3 ====================================================================== Norelco Spectra 8825 XL Electric Shaver "The noise and vibration levels are so quiet that it is hard to believe it's on. It is quiet compared to old Norelcos and very quiet compared to the Braun. Amount Paid (US$): 80 Noise Level: Almost noiseless" User review at Epinions http://www.epinions.com/content_85635010180# ====================================================================== Norelco 8865XL Spectra Cord/Cordless Shaver "Ultra Silent System low noise motor allows for a quiet shave." Digital Foto Discount Club http://www.digitalfotoclub.com/sc/main_item.asp?id=964586264 ====================================================================== Norelco 8894XL Spectra "This is an excellent shaver. Battery life is unreal (I get about four-six weeks -- can't estimate well yet as I have only charged it ONCE after initial charge!), cleans in water, shaves quickly (and well), and very quiet." "It was better than I could have imagined! Quiet! It does its job with only a whisper! The head is a bit larger and has a very interesting design to mold to your face and chin as you move it from neck to chin, etc.-- very high tech. It is so smooth too. Honest, the first time I used it, I could not tell like it was even cutting my beard! No iritation at all." User reviews at Category.org http://www.category.org/browse/kitchen/602602/ ====================================================================== Grundig FX1 - 5415 Electric Shaver "Shhh! This cutting edge shaver is so quiet no one would notice even if you used it in a library! Introducing the world’s most perfect shaver from Grundig - the first shaver to use horizontal and rotary cutting action." Dealtime http://www1.dealtime.com/xPF-Grundig_FX1_5415 ====================================================================== Grundig Pro Avantgarde "The Grundig Pro Avantgarde is the world's first shaver to combine rotary and horizontal motion to trim your shaving time. It gives you a faster and more comfortable shave by cutting side to side at the same time it rotates back and forth. And its 48 Micron platinum coated screen is the thinnest screen available anywhere providing you with an amazingly close and comfortable shave... At 53.5dB, the Grundig is also the quietest electric shaver available and its powerful engine gives off very little vibration (other popular shavers are rated from 56.5dB to 65db and higher)." Comfort House http://www.comforthouse.com/elshavgrunpr.html ====================================================================== Panasonic Sonic Shaving Linear ES8003W "Experts say the Linear is the fastest shaver available, with blades that move back and forth 13,000 times per minute. This model's floating triple heads contain multi-direction inner blades, making it very quiet, and it can be used wet or dry." Consumer Search http://www.consumersearch.com/www/family/mens_electric_shavers/ ====================================================================== Panasonic Linear ES8066K, Philishave HQ6425 Quadra Action & Norelco Quadra Action 6887XL "The Panasonic is quiet, more comfotable, wet/dry so you can clean it easily and claims more life out of the foil/blade than most shavers." "The quietest shaver I've come across is the one I use now which is a Philishave HQ6425 Quadra Action shaver. I'm sure that the Norelco Quadra Action shavers are just as quiet. It's even quieter than the rechargeable Philishave Reflex Action shaver I've been using when on the go. I find that the shaving action is noisier than the shaver itself with the Quadra Action I have." "I recently splurged and purchased the Norelco Quadra and have been shaving with it for about 1 week. I have a heavy beard and have historically had problems with ingrown hairs. I have in the past successfully used the Braun 1-2-3 and a Norelco Double Action. I will use the razor for the full recommended adjustment period because I like the easy cleaning with water, the style, the quiet operation, etc." "Ok, went back to blades for a week, then tried the Norelco. The first time I fired up the Norelco, I thought it was broken. This baby is whisper quiet - very light too! The Panasonic Linear sounds like a jack hammer compared to the Norelco. I used light foam again and the shave was incredible. It took me half the time to shave compared to the Panasonic, no irritation at all, and it was a joy to hold and manuever across my face, even under the jaw line." Tell Mr. Steel Beard http://mywebpages.comcast.net/steelbeard1/tell00.htm ====================================================================== Search terms used: "electric razor" + "quiet" "electric shaver" + "quiet" "electric razor" + "quietest" "electric shaver" + "quietest" ====================================================================== Another thing you may want to consider: a company called Brevete used to manufacture a wind-up shaver that was sold from the 1950s through the 1970s. My late father-in-law had one of these (his was the 'Monaco' model), and although the device was not noiseless, the noise it made was very different from the whining, buzzing noise of a typical electric shaver. This sort of noise might be less disturbing to your husband; it sounds somewhat like an old-fashioned wind-up toy. I have not been successful in finding a Brevete wind-up shaver for sale online at this time, but they do show up at eBay occasionally. You may want to keep an eye out for one. They last virtually forever (my father-in-law had his for 30 years), so a used one in good condition might be quite serviceable, once the blades have been professionally sharpened. I hope this information is helpful. If anything is unclear, or if a link does not function, please request clarification; I'll gladly offer further assistance before you rate my answer. Best wishes, pinkfreud
