No, not those kind of adult activities...We're about to set off for a family vacation to Orlando, including my in-laws (who I get along with very well, by the way). At least one of the nights we're there, I think my wife and I will leave the kids with G-ma and G-pa and head out for a night alone...any suggestions of good "couple" things to do around Disney World?
The Millenia Mall is a short drive away and the Blue Martini is the place to be on the weekend. Live music, great drinks - see and be seen. Lots of fun, dance the night away and NO MOUSE ears. LOL.
Enjoy a nice dinner at one of the high-end restaurants, afterwords head to the boardwalk and just take a stroll, its gorgeous.
You could also take this private boat on one of the Disney owned ponds, or lakes (whatever) and have a dinner there and you can watch the fireworks from Cinderella's Castle on the boat. Disney is fun for people of all ages. Why not book a reservation at one of their up-scale restaurants? Also, one park a day stays open late for people who are staying in the park. Why not venture off into one of the parks w/o the children. I hear Epcot is really lovely and the countries are more adult-friendly than kid-friendly. See what night there are open late and have some fun around the park, just the two of you.
I agree with going to one of the nice restaurants. Victoria & Albert's is generally thought of as the best disney dining, but you need reservations in advance, call 407-WDW-DINE (939-3463). Note: it's pricey and gourmet. Another *slightly* more reasonable option is called Jiko (I think) at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. The food is great, a bit exotic, some genuinely african offerings (food and wine) and a few safer options as well. But most of all, I would recommend making a reservation there about 15-30 minutes after sunset. Arrive early, get a drink, and walk out to the animal viewing area... it's exactly what it sounds like, you will be 15-100ft away from many different kinds of animals wandering around the savannah that populate the resort area and AKL (through a fence of course). They come out in the evening and sometimes there are naturalists there to describe, spot, identify them. If you like Disney parks and the ambiance, I agree with the recommendation to eat somewhere like Le Bistro or the Coral Reef at Epcot-- note you will have to pay park admission. Also, you can be seated at Cindarella's Royal Table INSIDE the castle at the Magic Kingdom (it's family oriented, so maybe better to do with the kids). Also, the Magic Kingdom in October does special "halloween party" nights where for a separate admission fee, they limit park attendance and keep it open 'til midnight. All the rides are open, plus there is trick-or-treating.
For less-Disney more gourmet options, you can eat in the WDW Swan at Il Molino's, which is an excellent outpost of the NYC legend of the same name. Further afield, it's about a 30 minute drive to downtown Orlando, where Coq au Vin makes excellent french fare.
About 10-15 minutes from the Disney resort area is Universal City Walk entertainment complex, which has lots of bars, Hard Rock Cafe, a Margaritaville, and numerous slightly more adult restaurants and venues. If you eat at Universal's Portofino Hotel, you can valet for free and then take their boat shuttle along the river to the citywalk complex for more nightlife. Oh! Lastly, if you are going soon, check out Epcot's International Food & Wine festival... In addition to the usual countries and restaurants, they have little kiosks from many more and exotic countries that feature tapas style local foods and spirits.
