Good idea or no? some feedback please?

  • heres the situation. I own a 1995 Ford F-150 extended cab with a regular bed. its a 4x4 with a 351 windsor. it has no lift, and stock wheels (15's). im lookin at these 'Big Horn' tires that are 35x12.5x15. they run for about $200 a tire. Before i buy those suckers, i would like a 6" lift. i found one on a sight for $500 with shocks. I have a few questions though, could i buy a bigger size of tire with that 6" lift without cutting the fenders? Overall is this a good idea or no?


  • i have a ford with a six inch lift and i bigger mud tires on it.the only problem i has was i had to remove my front mud flap.when i turned they rubbed hard .so i took them off.i have not had any other problem


  • I put 35x12.50x15 tires in my '85 Chevy 1/2 ton with a 4 inch lift and 9 inch wide wheels. The tires rubbed the front of the front fenders just a bit when turning. Since Fords tend to have larger,rounder wheel wells than Chevy's, you should not have any problem with this size tire.
    As long as you don't go with too wide a wheel,you may be able to go bigger with a 6 inch lift. The lift manufacturer can tell you how big a tire you can use with their lift kit.

  • why do you want the big tires and lift?

    The braking, handling and acceleration will all be seriously compromised.


  • It should work with no problems after the 6" lift. You may want to go to a steeper gear ratio those as the 35's will make it like it's in over drive most of the time. I have a Bronco with 33" 12.50X 15" on a 10" wheel and I did try on a set of 35, wish I had gone that way instead of the 33's. Driving it's no difference but more pedal pressure to stop and the gearing was to high at 3.50 to run in high range except in snow. Go 4.10 or 4.56's would be the best. BIGGER a 36 and you will never know the difference.
