Help!!! in need of mods for my mustang?

Published by: cfz 2010-03-18

  • i have a 1992 ford mustang 2.3l and i was lookin to find some horsepower adders for it. i have a cold air intake but i want more and plz dont say get a turbo or do a 5.0 swap because im only 15.

    thanks

  • Superchip. They are performance chips for almost every vehicle. They greatly enhace your vehicles performance and gas milage, speed, RPM, tourqe, ect. It is a great, well-known product.

  • Pouring money into that 2.3L is like flushing it down the toilet. You really would be better off doing an engine and tranny swap. Look in your local junk yards for a wreck to salvage. There's plenty of mustangs out there.

  • lol @ superchip.

You don't really want to get a tuner chip on any stock (or nearly stock) vehicle.

Though it would have to be professionally installed, I would recommend some heads or a cam, or some higher ratio gears.

Another good one which you could do yourself is get a larger throttle body, that will increase airflow to accommodate your cold air intake. Likewise, you could get a cat-back exhaust system, or any part of the exhaust system and either have it installed or install it yourself. I just had a cat-back Flowmaster system installed on my stang this summer and I could feel a slight power increase. It also sounds meaner!

    Good luck!

P.S. if you have any more questions, come ask me at mustangforums.com. I'm the member Canary94GT. Me and the other 100,000 members would love to help.

  • remember it is power to weight ratio, not just power. Look for weight reductions.

gasoline engines are air pumps, the more air you pump through it, the more power. Look at ways to get more air through your engine.

  • look at doing gears for your car, maybe heads and cam?. i dont know much about the 2.3l so cant help much, only good with the 4.6 and 5.0's.

  • "ask beavis, i got nothin" - butthead.

  • Make sure you have top performance parts. It's amazing what a good set of plugs can do for your car. Make sure all the fluids are maintained. Get a really good air filter like k&n, Maybe get new spark plug wires, a kit may run you like $75 if your lucky, A new radiator like a aftermarket grade. Weight reduction is a possibility but your working with a heavy chassis. Anyways, oh you can get a good exhaust system. If you already smoged it you can get a hollowed Cat or get just a straight pipe exhaust, Your car will be screaming loud. You can get upgraded fuel rails, fuel injectors, upgraded cams, pistons, but if your only 15 you probably wouldn't be doing that. Have Fun!

  • one thing i did with my mustang was upgrade the distributor and igniton system...it added about 30hp in my 98 gt

  • Sorry to say, but that is a very weak motor and I wouldn't even mod it. My first car was an 01 v6 mustang and I just kept her stock. i now have an 06 gt. Even with mods it won't add much hp and will cost more than I'm sure you want to put in for no seat of the pants feel of power. Underdrive pullies, free flowing exhaust. Up to you how much though? Headers, o/r mispipes, mufflers. It's up to you on choice of sound. Gears,

  • Well, to start with, your 4 banger Mustang wasn't made to go faster or powerful car. Sorry to say but most Mustang owners like myself hated the idea of Ford came up with a 6 banger mustang, let alone 4. But that's another story..

Anyways, you can push a little horsepower in it but not torque. You can start making your car lighter such as any junk in your trunk, take 'em out. Seat in the backseat, remove it if you don't need it. Get a aluminum radiator, higher spark plug wires, replace your stock rims to a wider rims yet, lighter such as aluminum or magnessium (not the chrome as some people call it mag which isn't the right term) if you can afford it. K&N air filter attached to your cold air intake. Find a nice headers for your car and see if you can replace the drive-shaft to an aluminum. Remove your air condition compressor and replace all your underdrive pulleys. That alone will cost you a lot and that doesn't include a superchip if it has one. Might as well convince your parents to get you the real Mustang as the 5.0 and modify it to bring out the beast out from the hood.

As soon as you start replacing stuff out of your car, it will cost you $$$$$$. So, I'd rather save the money and get a real thing later.

    Good luck.

  • build your own cai, have a muffler shop make you a custom exhaust, get forged internals, then turbo it. you could get gears. they dont make the car have more hp, but the higher the ratio, the faster they accelerate.
3.73s are good for manual transmissions and wont hurt your mpgs too much. 4.10s work nice with automatics but will hurt your gas mileage pretty bad.
idk if you have posi or not, but doing a burnout will help you find out :)
if you only leave 1 tire mark, get a t lock.
