I have a two month old kitten and she has very noisy breathing.?

Published by: admin 2010-03-16
  • At first i thought it was just her purring, but she has a kind of "khrr" in her breathing.. is this okay? i checked her for other symptoms but shes still active, eats her food, poops normally..what can be wrong? and how can i help?

  • Could possibly be chronic bronchitis. One of my cats has that.
If it gets bad, I take my guy into the bathroom with the hot shower on to get that steam in him so he can clear some of the stuff out.

If it becomes more serious, he may need a nebulizer or other such contraption.

The Anti-Cruelty Society - Near North Side - Chicago, IL::
140 reviewsI brought my two pups to get neutered here last month. In fact she was probably the most mellow 10 week old kitten I have ever seen. Luckily the Anti-Cruelty-Society has a program where they treat animals by 8pm he stopped breathing through his nose and wasn't able to lay down and breath comfortably.

  • Most likely a respiratory infection of some type. Being only 2 mo she does not have a very well developed immune system. If you can afford to take her to a vet. If it is not a bacterial infection you do not want to treat with antibiotics. However if you cannot afford the trip buy some antibiotics from the feed store, or pet store if you can get them. I know a feed mill will likely have teramyacin or something similar.

  • it could be her normal purr. if she stops eating she may have a uri. cats won't eat what they cannot smell. if you notice nasal discharge or a decrease in appetite, call your vet.

  • She may have debris (hair, dust, mucus) in her throat/windpipe, and it is causing her odd noises from her breathing. Your vet can check her for this.
Try to keep her away from dusty areas, brush her often (prevents licking, and hairballs), and have fresh water for her (keeps her hydrated).

  • Hi there !!

First off this kitten is definately way to young to be away from Momma :( unfortunately it does sound likely she has a Upper Respitory Infection caused by weaken immune system , I suggest getting her on a TOP QUALITY kitten food it will help support her already weakened system. I like feeding my cats/kittens Wellness cat and kitten food its a grain free products although a little pricey it does do wonders for there Immune systems. Make sure kitty is eating that is NUMBER ONE if not tempt her with anything you can Tuna/Ham seem to work well ! if she has NO mucus which will look crusty or greenish at the nasel openings then she should be OK. Another thing is she likely has not had any vaccinations at this point if you can take her to the vet for a check up and get her boosters if you CANNOT afford to go to a vet I suggest heading to your local TRACTOR SUPPLY store they have kitten vaccines there that are the exact same this as your vet will provide and give her it , it contains RHINO/CALICI/Panleukopenia most likely your kitten has what is call Feline Herpes Virus , with that said it is a VIRUS and it will probably run its course your best bet is to get her immune system up for her to be able to fight off whatever infections come her way . I am by NO MEANS a VETERINARIAN and I highly suggest you take her to the vet for a proper diagnosis. Good luck with her and if you have any other questions please feel free to contact me .

PS I highly suggest NOT giving antibiotics at this point as if it is a VIRUS it will do little to nothing but compromise her immune system, IF at anytime she seems lethargic and or weak get her vet attention immediately :)

Good luck with her !! and Keep us posted

  • First, what kind of cat is she? Persians or other cats with very short noses can tend to have noisy breathing due to their anatomy. If that is not the case, I would suggest actually looking in her nose to see if she may have mucous in there. Some cats are prone to upper respiratory infections (especially if they come from shelters) or may even have seasonal allergies. I would take her to your vet anyways because, just like people, she may have an infection that your vet would need to check out and determine if she needs drugs. Good luck and congratulations on your new family member!
