If your athiest why answer a spiritual question?
Published by: webmaster 2009-01-08

  • Thats like walking over to a hot dog stand and asking for ice cream. In the end you don't get what you want. So I was reading some religious questions and I go through'em and theres atleast 7 out of the 10 that answered this question openly stating hey I don't believe in that or hey I'm athiest. Why answer the question in the first place if you don't believe in anything you in the absence of enlighting others. I don't know about you but I'm christian and I take pride of that. I don't see why people have to come in and dog one's beliefs because they aren't of their own. So to my question why do athiest with their infinite knowledge of various religions, why answer something you know nothing of? A person can learn about it but to have faith you must also live by it.

  • Just because I don't believe in your God does not mean I don't have any valuable input.

My lack of belief does not denote a correlating lack of understanding.

  • We answer it because faith CAN lead you blindly. We, for the most part, don't "dog" your religion. The non-believers who DO study multiple religions see them the way that their mind interprets and have just as much to teach as you. Why does someone who doesn't share your "faith" have less of a say than you? Also, I'm not an atheist. I was raised a christian and when I found that blind faith did little to comfort me I decided agnostic was the best for me. I believe there is probably something greater, but no religion really justifies what it says. Christianity is younger than many other religions, so is your God damning those who came before his teachings? Please don't bash us, we don't want to bash you.

  • You should appreciate their input.

  • Just because I'm not Christian I can't have an opinion? You Christians are sure pretty vocal about your opinions on non-christians - don't like it the other way, do you?

What makes you think atheists don't believe in anything at all? Is that what some monkey in a pulpit told you to believe?

I've read the religious texts of all three major religions as well as a score or more of lesser ones. I've probably forgotten more about Man's religions than you even suspect exists. Of course, every Christian I know thinks he already has all the answers so the rest of us are just poor benighted souls who need saving.

Some atheists and/or agnostics just can't resist poking fun at people who believe in their invisible friend in the sky. It's an extremely laughable mythology and I just can't believe any rational, thinking human being could possibly put any credence into it. That's not an attack, it's an observation.

  • Bring out the beers, lads.

Sure this category is amusing to me, but I don't knock down all religious questions because I'm an Atheist. Every once and then, I'll answer a question sans sarcasm.

  • maybe because they have something to offer.

example - i just answered a question about where a christian book store is in a certain area. i'm a witch but had a good answer because i know exactly where one is

i'll take a vodka with berries and cream dr pepper!

    **drink**

  • Well, it kills a bit of time...

  • You are criticizing others for doing exactly what you're doing . It's impossible to have "infinite knowledge " of something , but "know nothing of " it .
It's one or the other , but not both . Think first , before you type .

  • The same reason Christians answer questions that are specifically not for them to answer.

  • Just expressing an opinion,... or trying to convert everybody... or just after the 2 points!
Personally I too am a christian, and pray for these nonbelievers. Although I know they don't appreciate it, I do it anyway.

  • A spritual question cannot be answered except by the person who asks it, since spirituality is intrinsic and has nothing to do with a second or third party. I as an atheist answer those questions in a manner similar to this in hopes that those gullible people out there who could be seduced by the dark side will have another viewpoint to consider and maybe we won't lose another person to the dark side of the spiritual questions.

  • Why ask a question if you only want your own answer repeated back to you?

  • If you're a theist, why don't you just ask God for the answers to your questions?

This qualifies as a "why are you here" q, I think... so you get the link -

  • If God does not exist, why then do you pray?

  • why do christians knock on my door and pass laws to save my soul in my own house.

    religion is mythology.

Santa is returning soon, are you prepared?!

  • your hot dog analogy doesn't make sense.

It's more like walking up to a guy advertising selling hotdogs, but really he doesn't have a product at all. Of course he'll tell you that he has hot dogs for sale, but can't offer any proof. He just says give him the money now, and then you'll get the hot dog after you die.

  • Mine wasn't meant as an attack, and I'm sorry, but implying, nay, flat out SAYING that we know nothing of religion? Comparing us to someone asking for ice cream at a hot dog stand? If that's not an attack, than certainly by comparison there were very few, if any, attacks. Report Abuse

  • we like to inject rational thought into irrational places...

  • Most atheists are former Christians. They are simply trying to show you something that you are not seeing. Once an atheist, most people feel bad for having lived a lie for their entire life. So they really just want to help you, even though you don't want it. You really are going to get it either way, because atheists don't want this trend to continue for generations to come.

  • To point out the fallacy in your assumption that atheists can't be spiritual. Google Buddhism for a start.

I have studied several religions in depth; you have probably only studied one. Who, then, has more right to be answering questions about various religions?

    "Why are atheists in R&S"

  • because everyone likes to be listened to, even athiests. if youre a christian, why do you judge them for their actions and beliefs? souldnt you be leaving that to God?

  • because contrary to your assumptions, theism is not a requirement of being spiritual. Report Abuse

  • I used to be a christian, and therefore my insights in the christian religion are as valid as yours.
You won't see me debating a point of Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist or Hindu doctrine.

  • Because obviously it bothers them that people are content and happy or they wouldn't have to share their view with the whole world. Second, yes many religions have caused people to go astray. However, if you look at people in general they are not perfect and never will be. If you have a relationship with God your perspective of God will be different, because God teaches in the Bible to be unselfish, gentle, loving and kind. If you focus on people they will truly show you selfishness, unkindness, unforgiveness, and much more. They are missing the point of a true relationship with God, it's really to bad. I feel very sorry for them, because I have been through alot of very rough times and God has been very loving and compassionate to me. But I don't focus on religion I focus on a relationship with my gentle loving Savior. Obviously, they are also like many people that haven't truly read what the Bible says, and just sat and asked God what He wants from them, they probably are like many selfish people of this world and want God to give you worldly pleasures. Especially if they would read The New Testament ,they would have seen the love that Jesus has for us. It's really to bad for many of you, who have an opinion without truly seeking. Or truly understanding what to seek for, even many christians, Jews, and Islamics. In fact, I feel that some are still trying to find the answers but don't really want to admit it. But, do as Jesus tells us, Love your enemies, pray and ask for love and forgiveness, be kind, gentle, for the world did not know Him.

  • People who believe in God represent a serious ongoing threat to the survival of human civilization. Getting in the face of those who venerate the ancient past is a way of saying, "I prefer to work for a brighter future." It's become an act of civil disobedience to openly defy those who have long used superstition and ignorance to undermine humanity's future.

  • cuz its fun =]

  • If you check the answer history you will find this is asked multiple times per day and there are many good and valid reasons why atheists might be interested and answer questions here.

  • Because like you said, we've learned of it. I don't have to be a college math professor to answer a math problem, or a martial arts master to tell you what that style you're thinking of is. I don't have to like a food to tell you how to cook it properly. In fact, when you're not blindly following one religion, you can get a much more objective view of all religion, so you'll get a more objective perspective. Atheists, or any person who is aware of, respectful towards, and has considered the views of all religions, can provide a lot of insight on the topic; moreso than someone who is obsessed with one religion and thereby has no perspective. Some of the best theologists are atheists, but they probably know more than the most devout minster does. Following and living by it doesn't make you knowledgable, and you might even be LESS suited to answer some questions due to how you obviously favor your religion.

It's questions. It's sharing knowledge. We don't have to believe in it to learn about it and to understand it. You say we're 'dogging' you're beliefs, but you're doing the same thing by underestimating OUR knowledge because of OUR beliefs. It's a little something called hypocrisy, and one of the main reasons I'm not religious is because the church is it's primary breeding ground.

Also, I'd like to point out that you can be 'spiritual' AND atheist. Atheist is defined as 'Not believing in a god' and spirits and gods are very different.

The whole reason people are bashing you for your beliefs is because you are completely ignorant of others' beliefs and you think they have less knowledge then you because of their beliefs. You, and other hypocrites like you, are the main reason so many of us have chosen to reject religion and live our lives the way we have; With just as many morals and values as you, and the same potential for knowledge, but without the embrace of closed-minded hypocrites and the crutch that is blind faith.

Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of religious people that I respect and admire for their beliefs, and for the way they treat others with beliefs different than them. If they were the sole inhabitants of the church, I would join immediately. But unfortunately, they're not, and if he does exist then I don't think God will blame me for refusing to join an organization with so much bigotry and hypocrisy that has caused so much harm to the world.

For the record, I am somewhere between agnostic and atheist; I consider God's existance possible, but simply due to my probability-oriented way of thinking. And guess what? I can find the compassion in the world, and be unselfish, and treat my fellow man and my parents with respect, and do everything that any preacher has ever told me to- and if God does exist, than he knows that he doesn't have to worry about me, because I'll do just as much for the world as any of his 'followers' would have in my place. If he exists, I dare not put myself on his level; but so he can give his strength to those who needs it, I will be strong on my own. I will walk the same path that I think he would have wanted me to, but I will still walk it my own way. Now, the catholics who think they're better than everyone else, and are hypocritical to their beliefs, or the atheists with no values, morals, or sense of right and wrong whatsoever; he can help them. I will use my own strength, so he can give his to those who need it; I express major doubts of his existence, but I consider it a possiblity, and if he exists that is what I think God would want of me. I will endure and ask for no favors, so that the favors may be given to those who hold less strength, or those who must endure more than I, and I will endeavor to give favors of my own to all whom I can. This is my philosophy in religion, and in life itself; whether God exists or not, this is the way of thinking that I choose to live my life.

it seems a lot of religious people never expect my beliefs could be that deep when I explain it. Being atheist or agnostic does NOT mean you aren't spiritual, does NOT mean you don't have beliefs, and does NOT mean that you haven't considered theistic beliefs when you established your own moral code, your own values, and your own beliefs.

  • I wonder the same thing, I just asked a religious question and just got a bunch of jerks answering the question, so guess what, I just deleted the question, so no one gets points ! but I think people will hang out in the 'Religion' section to spread their hatred and negativity, I guess this gives them their strength. misery loves company you know
