my cell phone isnt working and i want to go take care of my horse but i dont have anyway to get a hold of anyone when i want a ride home....
so cant i just bring my house phone to the barn and use it like a cell phone???
No, my friend tried it when she walked down the street to the corner store and she lost connection. It only works around the area of your house.

No harm in trying. If you know someone who owns one of the newer phones by Panasonic using DECT 6 borrow it and see if it works. All phone ranges are not the same.
Recovering from a Disaster Tips | Microsoft Small Business:: After a disaster -- such as a hurricane or 9/11-style terrorist attack -- is it possible to recover your business data? http://www.microsoft.com/smallbusiness/resources/technology/commuom-a-disaster-5-tips.aspxHOME | No, you cannot. The house phone, which I assume is cordless, needs to have it's base (the thing you put it back in to to charge) connected to a landline (phone jack with paid-for phone service) in order to work. It's range is limited, so the phone becomes useless outside your house.
It depends on the location of the cordless phone's base unit and the location of the barn, as well as if there are any structures (i.e., walls) in between the base unit and the barn. If the barn is close enough to the house (meaning in the "back yard") and the cordless phone is one of the more modern cordless phones that utilizes a more "powerful" transmission method than phones from 3 or more years ago, then you may be able to take that handset outside with you when you walk to the barn and still make/receive calls. Try it out and see if it works.
No its to far away for a home phone the receiver will not pick it up from far away.
is it not recommended, you are going to get a high bill.
