One of my cats is completely hyperactive and has some very bizarre behaviour which seems very reminiscient of human ADHD... does anyone know if there's a feline form which my cat might have?!
Ya know, there just might be. But having had about 100 or so cats in my life, i think it just occurs, personalities can be wierd. They do make calming air freshener things, for animals with seperation anxiety. It helpps them be calm and content. Ask your vet, they'll know where to point you.
In the mean time, avoid the catnip ;-)
There is no such thing as Human ADHD. It is a dustbin label used to describe various conditions including Food additive intolerance, poor parenting and bad behaviour
Hi there,
I too have a cat that meets the diagnostic critera of ADHD. He has compulsive habits also which are very bizarre. He used to walk around the bathtub three times before going into the litter box, and did other "counting" type behaviors as well. He used to overgroom and bite himself until he bled.
My vet suspected an anxiety problem mixed with obsessive compulsive behaviors, and prescribed Buspar, then Prozac ( which made him worse) and finally Amytryptiline which is working wonders.
Playing with your cat regularly can help with these behavioral problems.

But some medications can really work wonders. I wish you described some of your cat's actual behaviors.
Hope this helps,

Not by diagnosis but as with humans, they find that a lot of behaviours have to do with age (very young) and diet. A diet that has a lot of by products, grains and other things not good for your animal can cause it to go loopy. Try upgrading their diet to not contain these things and see if that helps.
I'm not sure there's a medical diagnosis yet, but I definitely think my last cat (who now resides with my more tolerating mother) had the disorder. She was absolutely bonkers! She would leap face-first into windows, walls, and other solid things; she would dig through the trash, toilet paper, and any cabinet she could get open. She even woke me up around 5 a.m. just about every morning, biting and sucking on my face and neck...blegh! This cat chewed through electrical wires, attempted to eat my computer keyboard, and would stop at nothing to reach the highest spot in whatever room she happened to be in (this is where the "leaping into other solid things" came into play). Her bizarre behavior and crazy antics lead me to believe that cats can and do have mental disorders; my sympathies to you!
