I'm not familiar with sigma optics as i've never used anything but nikon. i've heard complaints from time to time from people who use them, and haven't ever heard a complaint from people who use straight nikon / canon. i say go with the name brand and not worry about it.

the quality of the glass is much better on the D. i read that you cant have the camera set on M w/ the Gs
