I have successfuly uploaded page one of my web site but I do not know the navigation steps using "1st page 2000" that will allow me to make page two and three. Is there a code for a page break??? If so, what is it or how do I find it on the editor?
    Please help.

  • Probably the lazy way to do it, but that's me.I've always believed the laziest people make the best programmers because they are so ingenious at getting the computer to do all the hard work. Certainly creating page templates that you just add content to is the best way to do things. Later, if you get more experience and have a site with many pages, you may look at server-side scripting that stitches a page together from component parts in different files. Like you can have header.txt and nav.txt and such all appended into a single HTML file. Now that is lazy and when you make one change it propagates through the entire site. That is also why CSS is so great because one change can affect all the pages in a site.

  • :) Just goes to show, you should read Forums before posting.

I was going to ask the same Question.

    Thanks guysgals

  • I am aware that a link must be used to go from page to page i.e.
A nav link. I have used "index.html" as the name of page one but I am confused as to how to make page two have its own different URL? Thanks for your help thus far but please keep providing me more information. I have made web sites with multiple pages using a Webtv (which uses page break inserts, but this is my first computer and my first attempt to build a web site on a Windows XP Gateway computer). I am able to read and write HTML. I just don't know how to make a second page be seperate from the first index page and have the second page have its own URL.

  • I'm not aware of any "navigation steps" that 1st page would provide. You need to link your pages together using code, linking them is a separate issue from inserting a page break.

    Here's an example:
    A nav link
    Does this help?

  • Congrats on reading the forums, you karma is increased...for doing the obvious...

Which is exactly what I want to do. My NavBar doesn't change that much but I want to be able to make one change to one file that will be automatically used by all the other pages that display the NavBar. I had thought the file had to be XHTML or SHTML though and not a simple txt file.

  • Yeah, put the code that animgirl just gave you on your web page with "A nav link" being the text you want the viewer to click to go to the next page. Sandwich what you want them to click inbetween the tags. So if you want them to click See my Fabulous Fotos! you would write:See my Fabulous Fotos!

The part that tells the computer "When someone clicks on the following information, go to fotos.html" is the Next is the text you want them to click to go there. You can also use an image! (woo hoo). To do that you would insert the image code inbetween the tags. You can have text and images in this area if you like.

Of course, after you have introduced a link and defined what makes it happen, then remember to turn it off by placing the tag at the end. Otherwise the link will go on for the entire length of the page and you will look like you don't know it!

  • Hi there,

Just make a new page, in the same way that you made the first one, but with the content you want on the second page. Then "Save As" another name than "index.html" .
For example you could save it as "page2.html" or "fotopage.html" or whatever you want - then the link as shown above would work:
    Page 2

    Hope this Helps.

  • Thank you dabber, animgirl, tmmoose, and XXX for helping me with the making a second & third page issue. I think I understand how to do it now and I am going to upload a second page, give it a different name and link it with the href code. If I goof it up, I will be back for more of your good advice. Thanks again.

  • The first page you make is the index page which has
links to the other pages you make...
    Hope this helps......Example (http://www3.sympatico.ca/terry.mckee/old/example.html)

  • Why not just save your index page as something different (using 'save as') and then insert the new page's content.

Probably the lazy way to do it, but that's me.
