I have those, but I need to know which buttons I should map...
Buy a MCE remote usb dongle and Remote Buddy.
... or a Keyspan Express and Remote Buddy. Both will allow you to use the Apple remote with your Mac Pro.
Nope, it does not. Thats why I need to know how the official support apple remote is mapped. I have a keyspan receiver and apple remote. RemoteBuddy is a little tricky to work out, but once you get your head round it it sorta clicks...
Anyway, the keys you need to define actions for are as follows (taken from the FAQ):
- navigate
- scroll up and down
- select
- previous menu
- go up back (or up) a directory
- pause
- Skip Next
- Skip Previous
- Full Screen
= Screen Shot
- Volume Down
- Volume Up
<0 - 9> - 0 through 9
p - Play
f - Fast Forward
c - Context menu
r - Rewind
x - Stop
m - Player controls
s - Shutdown menu
i - Info
q - Queue
How you map them is up to you. Personally I've mapped them to any old button on the keyspan remote as I use a Logitech Harmony One Remote to control XBMC so I just remapped the keyspan buttons to the correct ones on that in the Logitech setup program. I also created a couple of applescripts:
tell application "XBMC" to activate
and
tell application "XBMC" to quit
to start and stop XBMC via the remote too.
It doesnt help me cuz mac pro doesnt have a internal ir-receiver?

Here's how mine looks compared to the built-in ones.
I don't own a mac, so not sure if you can do this, but does your ir receiver not show up the same as the built in ir receiver? If so, could you still not map it the same as the instructions provided above?
Hi Volante!
Do you read the other posts ?
This one (http://xbmc.org/forum/showthread.php?t=31643) for example :;):

Hmm, ya, if xbmc only where so simple to use as front row =)
I can't imagine all buttons being needed at once. Oh well, thanks for all the help.
dont know can you send me by email plz lout@atlas.cz

Truth be told I'm happier that XBMC is more advanced then Front Row. There are a bunch of things that you need the keyboard and or mouse to change with front row provided they can be done at all.
Besides all the buttons (keys) in XBMC aren't necessary on a day to day basis. Once set-up the way you like it most people can easily control XBMC from an Apple Remote without need for anything else.
Complete movie metadata, IMDB movie ratings, automatic posters, and the flexibility to easily change settings if needed. I'll take XBMC any time.
plz put your the behaviour for Remote Buddy on diferent web when i click on your link its take me to http://www.funny-games.biz/main.html tnx m
That's odd man, what service works for you then?
BTW, if you only have an Apple Remote (and not a keyspan remote to go with your keyspan reciever) you are going to struggle to map all of the above. I'd strongly recommend getting a cheap Logitech Harmony like the 525 and using that to pretend its a keyspan remote...
Doesn't XBMC offer support for those with internal receivers?

Well, if you can have simplicity and the functionality, it's gooood. ;)
So, I finally took time to map out the buttons using remote buddy. 2 notes tho, you could add more buttons if you include the not used held buttons and the menu button (which i couldn't get to work).
Here's how I mapped it:
Left = Arrowkey Left
Right = Arrowkey Right
Up + = Arrowkey Up
Down - = Arrowkey Down
Play/Pause = Enter
Down - (Held) = Esc
This should let you navigate once you have set everything up.
Here is the behaviour for Remote Buddy:
