I am trying to find a conference in Washington, DC. this month where
Greet Van den Berghe M.D., Ph.D. is speaking on the management of
glucose in critically ill patients. There was a 2003 conference put
on by NIH sponsored in November 2003, but I have seen a print out of
this year's event, and cannot find it. I know it's in December, I

The Role of Insulin in the Critically Ill Patient: Basic and Clinical Evidence
"Emerging information from different basic and clinical arenas has
centered attention on the crucial role of insulin during stress and in
particular in the acutely ill patient. Elegant clinical studies
indicate that aggressive glucose control reduces mortality, while the
role of insulin, independent of glucose control, is also being
evaluated. The purpose of this meeting is to
review the most currently relevant information assessing insulin
therapy in the acutely ill as well as to explore the potential
underlying mechanisms involved in these processes."
