Messenger - intercept user keystrokes | | Published by: anonym 2009-01-07 |
I installed outpost pro 2009 trial earlier this week - really like it. Much better than ZA, which really let me down recently (and better than comodo, which i tried out for 45 minutes before removing).
I'm still getting used to outpost and have a question.
Every 30 minutes or so I get an outpost dialogue box which reads:
Windows Messenger
Application is attempting to intercept user keystrokes
Application: MSMSGS.EXE Internet spy downloads at VicMan:: Secretly monitor and record all activity of computer users and automatically deliver logs to you via Email or FTP at set interval, including keystrokes, http://www.vicman.net/getfree/internetspy.htmlHOME |
Method: SetWindowsHookEx
Each time I notice it I select 'Block Once' - after doing this messenger seems to continue working properly.
Should I be suspicious of this? Any ideas?
Thanks for your reply.
Due to using ZA's concepts I'm used to program-based rules.
If, the next time I block this, choose to block it permanently, am I right in thinking that to revert I can go to Application Settings>Anti-Leak Control and set Keyboard logging back to Use Global.
I apologise in advance if this is something I should already know - it feels like I should.
Welcome to the forum.
You probably won't like my response because basically it's going to be "it depends."
It's likely that Messenger is doing nothing wrong and just making some hook to something. There are some commercial aspects of this software. So it's probably safe. OFFICIAL - Winamp plugin for Yahoo! Messenger v4.5:: 15 posts - Last post: Oct 10, 2008It's risky, I know, some other program could intercept the message, change only the registry keys belonging to the users who chose so. http://numedecod.ro/HyperIM/forum/index.php?topic=623.15HOME | Download Intercept Software: Mail Exposer, Super Happy Fun Space :: QuikCheck Keyboard & Application logger for Windows is a monitoring program which allows the user to intercept all keystrokes, mouse clicks, http://www.bluechillies.com/list/intercept.htmlHOME |
However, it's a good practice to block everything you don't understand and see if it causes problems. If it doesn't, then it won't hurt anything to make a rule to block the traffic so that you aren't bothered by it.
You'll find lots of things like this with Outpost since it just looks at more things then the other products you tried. Don't be discouraged by it because it just gives you more control. It does however take a bit more work on your part. But, once configured, you really won't even know its there.
You are doing the right thing - trying it before you buy it to see if it suits you.
Good luck with it.
What I'm trying to do is intercept keystrokes typed by the user before they have reach the application currently in use and replace them with my
own.

Not sure that's relevant to my original post here, is it?
I'd recommend posting a new thread, maybe in a different forum even?..
Good luck.
Yes, you are right!
