western Europe).
The list must contain:
A. Name of MVNO, and country
B. Key persons in management and contact info
C. Number of subscribers (or other size parameters)
MVNO can be operative, or non operative yet.
Please note that I do not need a reference to a report but the list
itself!

It was a pleasure to answer such an interesting question. As you might
yourself know that there is no specific definition of MVNO's and
experts are still divided over the concise definition. Generally, a
MVNO provides mobile subscriptions without a license. It is estimated
that there are about 50 MVNO's by the end of year 2002. I have located
51 MVNO's but some of them have very limited information on the net so
I just provided their names and website address, if possible. Almost
all of them are located in Western Europe with United Kingdom and
Scandanavia being the largest markets.

I have tried my best to provide you the list of most MVNO's that are
operational in the world, today. Since, this is a diverse field, even
a large super store can have a mobile service. In fact it sometimes
gets difficult to have a complete financial information on the mobile
services of such a company. Take for example the case of Sainsbury's
in UK that is the second largest retail store. Sainsbury provide
mobile services to its customers through many different companies.
This company doesn't provide its financials of its mobile business but
relates this to 'other businesses' on its financial sheets.
The point is, we can get the data by research that is if the company
is willing to make it public. Also, small or new companies in a
certain business are sometimes reluctant to provide number of
subscribers due to the 'secrecy factors' relating to the competition.
I have divided the list into three categories. The first category
contains the list of MVNO's for which the data was accessable. The
second contains those MVNO's that have a website but either detailed
information is not provided or it was difficult to get. The last
category just provides the names of other well known MVNO's in a
country.
While compiling the information, I came across may websites that had
no English translation which made my work a little difficult. I
translated the contents of the web pages by using two useful services.
I will list those services at the end so that you may also use them.
Addressing your question, I didn't pay attention to the number of
MVNO's (I think they are at least 25 for the first category). More
important to me was to provide you as many MVNO's as possible along
with their websites so it may help you in the future.

It is difficult to gauge the exact size of MVNO market in this case
because
it is a typical MVNO is a technical sense. The MVNO in this case is
the
second largest supermarket in UK and it operatos its mobile MVNO
business
in connection with many companies. Therefore, it doesn't provide any
statisitcs for the business and relates to such a business in 'other
operations' on its financial sheets. It by no means confirms that the
data
is not availabe but it just means that the company does not make it
public
or the data might only be available on a subscription basis.
