before this i would pump the gas twice and she would start right up and run on high idle till warm then i could tap it down and she would run smooth never had a problem with this idling thing before
It sounds like your carburetor needs to be cleaned. The choke doesn't sound like it's working properly, and the high idle linkage is getting stuck.
With the air cleaner housing removed, you should be able to watch the linkages on the side of the carb while someone else presses the pedal and you may be able to figure out where the problem is with the idle linkage.
As for the choke, I'm going to assume that you have an automatic choke that isn't working as well in the colder weather. It may not work at all, or it may be not working very well due to its age or something. It's a tough one to diagnose without being there to watch it close the butterfly. Sounds like the choke is stuck or malfunctioning.

It sounds like two problems that have chosen to present themselves at the same time! However, it could be just one problem. If it has a carb. then it could be the accelerator pump, or it could be the electric part of the choke unplugged. You might need to spray some choke and carb cleaner on it, and help free it up. It MAY even need a tune up. Hope this helped, and good luck!
