You would apply like anyone else for the civil service or other position.

USAF owes you precisely nothing in this regard.

  • You can call the employment readiness center on your post/base. they can tell you who to talk to and give you some ideas of what positions are opens.

  • Every Air Force Base has a civilian personnel office (CPO). You will start there and see what's available. I would encourage you to also apply for civil service positions off base. Getting into civil service can be difficult but once you are in, you can work your way into bigger and better things.

You can apply in person with the Family Service center when you get to his permanent duty station, until then you don't know where he is going.

  • If you are interested in applying for a GS position, you will have to apply. You can go ahead and fill out a resume on the Government's job seeking website USAJOBS. You can search for jobs worldwide, that you might be able to qualify for at your new location.

IF you are qualified, you can apply for the position on-line. Sometimes, the application is not able to be accepted on-line, but will give you the information on how to apply.

The jobs are NOT impossible to get, but you do have to be the most qualified applicant for the position. If you do not qualify, you will not get the job.

You might want to consider applying for a job at the BX (Base Exchange) when you get there in the interim.

    Good Luck.

  • Once you get to his initial duty assignment, I suggest you attend the base orientation with your husband. All the base agencies will be there, and can assist you. Failing that, the civilian employment office and/or Family Readiness Center can also help you out.

  • Lots of great jobs at the Aerospace Dining Facility or the Base Exchange they are always looking for people who need jobs.

  • getting INTO the GS system is about impossible. you apply for all jobs like anybody else would.
