Close internet explorer and open it again.
Yahoo says this is a glitch and will clear on its own. From the inbox page, click View All Messages, then click unread messages, if you have any in folders or any late arrivals in the middle of the page or on the last page it will show. This was happening to many of us also in the classic mail, and it did clear on it's own. Refreshing the page, restarting the computer and clicking on the number don't work. Only time and Yahoo. Some INbox mail will end up appearing as if they arrived last month or last year. I've had that problem and found the UNopened mail at the beginning of my inbox messages, despite the fact it was sent recently.
Check out your oldest dated INbox mail and you may find a new arrival.

This seems to be a glitch in Yahoo at the moment, no doubt they are working on this. It is one of many problems and the answers seem to be different for everyone.
