I've have a IUS (intrauterine system) for over a year (18 months). In the beginning,about the first 4 months I didn't have my period at all and after 6 months I would have irregular bleeding for a few days and then nothing for months. Right now I discharge and it's black-ish brown,very light and I have no cramps. I'm not tired or sick,so I can't really tell if it's something serious or just normal in my case. Does anyone else with a IUS or IUD have irregular bleeding that is thick and/or blackish brown or is it something I should see my doctor for?

When blood is old it is sort of brownish. It is normal. You may have to douche. I know they don't recomend it, but if you do it carefully that might help. if you have no pain or fever, it will probably go away.

I don't have the IUD, but I do get a brown discharge without cramps just before my period.
