Now it seems like she is paralyzed on one side, can only walk in circles, and has no balance. So until I can take her to the vet in a few hours, I was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience before. Is there treatment or should I just let her go peacefully?
this happened to one of our ratties...she was two and a half. We noticed that she was paralysed in the back legs so we watched her closely for a few days when we saw her shudder/convulse for several seconds and then after that she became even more paralysed BillingsGazette.com :: Pet therapy gets sophisticated:: When she bent to gently stroke Henrys head, he responded with a few in 1999, she has worked on other animals as well, including horses and a pet rat. http://www.billingsgazette.net/articles/2006/10/08/news/state/40-therapy.txtHOME | Moon Blindness in Horses / Horses Articles / Pet Articles / Televets.com:: Using steroids in an ulcerated eye can make the condition worse and possibly lead to blindness. only one eye had the diseased eye removed Heat Stroke http://www.televets.com/articles/horses/moon-blindness-in-horses.htmlHOME |
she made her comfortable and watched her very closely, taking extra care with her. Then one night she had several shudders/convulsions within an hour and then died peacefully
she seemed a bit frightened when these things were happening, but we were able to give her lots of love and comfort which soothed and calmed her. I dont believe that she suffered, at least not more than anyone would expect in such old age. Gerbils, Clawed Jird, Monodelphis domestica:: Pet Rats. Short Tailed Opossum. Small Animal Care. If I thought my ratty was suffering unduly I would take to the vet. Although it would be sad and hard, I would have my darling little pet euthanised if it was suffering
It is hard to advise
the vet will be able to inform you better...but when a ratty gets to about 2yrs old then that equates to very old age for most and it is ok to let them go when it is their time even though it is so sad to say goodbye
if you have not tried this maybe buy a pedigree ratty next time from a breeder who aims to breed for health and extend the live span of their type
there is some current research that informs that it is also possible to extend your rattyies lifespan by feeding only quality natural foods...not too much protein and a good balanced diet...No Junk Food!!!
further ratties are social and are happier and thus healthier if they have at least one or more cage mates.
hope your rattie is ok and that the vet can offer some help :)
