My site has been dying for weeks. I've done everything I can and it's still happening. Here's my info and what I've done.

1. Shared virual server - I have no idea how many sites are served, but it's a nice virtual server. It seems to be a true virtual environment - I can restart the server, the webserver, db server, etc. without affecting others. I have access to my own httpd.conf, etc.

2. Server specs:

4 CPUS Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.00GHz
4Gb RAM
50GB SCSI
Fedora Core release 1 (Yarrow)
apache/IIS version: apache 2.0.48 (Fedora)
PHP version: php 4.3.11
MySQL version: mysql 4.1.7

It's weird because I haven't had an increase in traffic or usage - anything really noticable anyways. I did notice a new bot that has been hounding the site, so I've blocked it with .htaccess. I've also created a spider trap. I've also blocked common worms with .htaccess. I've disabled guest traffic. I've compressed the whitespace out of my templates. I've disabled "search" on my site. I know PHP 4.3.10 had an unserialize issue, so I updated that and MySQL while I was at it.

Thread loads shouldn't take 60+ seconds. Even when I shut down my site so no one can access the forums - loads for me are taking 10-20 seconds. The server load is constantly high no matter how many people are on. I constantly get "false, database link failed" errors. I don't know where to go from here...anyone have an idea?

I've contacted my host and they just offer to reboot the server or offer me a dedicated server.

I've tried with vB and phpMyAdmin to repair and optimize my db - but it takes forever and never completes with some tables. How can I SSH the command in?

Sorry to sound so whiney, I'm just so exhausted after dealing with this for so many days and just gaining small ground - I've gone from failed page loads to 70 second page loads; better, but still not acceptable. :(

Thank you so much!!! I contacted my host and it seems they've helped out - the site is usable again. BUT, it's still not great and my server loads are between 1.20 and 7ish. Could you take a look at it now?

Eva2000 is the server guru and he is not online every day. Sometimes you just need to be patient. :)

sorry for delays LunaTech, my pc's hard drive died a few days ago and been busy trying to recover any data I can :(

As to your problem i think the shared server is just overloaded.. ask web host how many sites are on this server

3. your forums itself don't look busy so 110% sure it's someone else on your server hogging some resources

I'd probably request to be moved off that shared server to a less crowded one.
