On the connector that plugs into the xbox, there is a little switch for deciding between HD and regular resolution. At the other end, the one which you plug into your TV, there should be six different connectors. One set of Red, White, and Yellow, and then another set of Red, Blue, and Green.
The first set is for the standard resolution; only the yellow sends the signal for video. Both the Red and White on this set are solely for the audio.
The second set, the Red, Blue, and Green, is used entirely for video. This allows the video to be displayed in High Definition; there is so much information, it can't be carried on one cable. None of these actually carries audio, only video.

The point is, you must make sure that the setting on the xbox plug, between HD and regular, is set complimentary to the cables you have plugged in. If I had to guess, I would say that the Yellow, Red, White are plugged into the back of your TV, and the plug is set to HD. Just set it to regular, and you should be gaming worry-free.
sorry pall your video cable is broke, or the plug is. sorry pall, or your using the HD cable on a reguler tv.

well i had an experience where my colored codes that go into the back of the tv would not go in tight, causing some of the components to not work. Try pushing them in harder and in different positions to see if that helps. That's all i know. Good Luck.
