mysqlhotcopy db_name [/path/to/new_directory]
mysqlhotcopy db_name_1 ... db_name_n /path/to/new_directory
mysqlhotcopy db_name./regex/
questions again, mysqlhotcopy is this used to backup the actual database files in the mysql data directory i.e. /var/lib/mysql/mydatabase ?
I've never looked at the mysqlhotcopy script, but yes this is the same as using mysqldump... except it will flush and then lock the database tables before doing the dump. So, if you are backing up a server that is running, using this script would be safer then just a mysqldump alone.
