I have a hitachi visionbook pro 7000 series laptop. I had window NT
on it up thought I would upgrade to Windows 2000 Professional.
That was my first mistake!
Now my US Robotics 56K internal modem will not work. I suspect that I
need windows 2000 drives to drive this thing. Where can I get them?
When I remove the device my computer detects it again and says 16550
(I guess that may be relevent in your search for the correct driver).
I need to know where to download the windows 2000 driver.
Thank you to everyone for the comments - they were helpful. I managed
to use a standard driver but it is only 28K. It works but kind of
slow and I can't hear the dialing. Atleast it works. Hello crabapple,
I would say that it would probably be best to go back to Windows NT.
If you want to keep Windows 2000, then you might have to find a new
modem. After extensive searching I was unable to find this driver for
you.
The US Robotics website has some OEM drivers but I did searches for
your product and tried to match it up, without any luck.

You could try contacting Hitachi directly. Here is a customer support

Also you can try to install your modem as a generic one, sometimes it works.
Checking the Hitachi Specs for your model:
http://www.hitachipc.com/notebooks/vbp6000.html
lists Win95, Win98 and WinNT, with upgrades for those systems, but
does not mention Win2K at all.
The US Robotics site has upgrades here:
http://www.hitachipc.com/notebooks/vbp6000.html
with a link below, which you might check.
Sorry I couldn't find particular support for your Model notebook with
that integrated USR modem.

I believe 16550 is the chip type of the serial port. It may not be
related to your modem.
