i have been using this lens for about 3-4 months now and it is amazing. sharp, all metal body, and the macro setting comes in handy from time to time. my question is that the only lens hood that comes with this lens is the HB-1.

Anything specifically which is wrong with the HB-1? The old 62mm font element is not something I have seen commonly on Nikkor lenses recently so I can't tell you if any modern hoods fit on it.

You could get a screw in hood for the filter thread of the lens, usually aftermarket and off brand.
