Just completed a tutorial on noise control. The starting image was an out of the camera 1600 ISO jpg ( pretty noisey ) and it was a little underexposed too.

The tutorial explains using my own software but the workflow holds the same not matter what software you use.
When denoising I try and keep as much detail as possible without getting a plasticy look and remove as much colour noise as possible.
