Numbing cream??? Eh??? What's all this nonsense. The pain is all part of the fun !!!
you really wont need it. I just got mine done yesterday and it's my 6th tattoo...and I would go as far as to say it hurt the LEAST out of all of them. granted, my wrist is a little sore today but it's really not bad at all...I was freaked out for like a week about it and it was all for nothing...now i have an awesome tattoo!
Besides, if you are going to get a tattoo, deal with the pain...it's part of the process and in the end you don't even remember what it felt like...just that you have an awesome piece of art forever! Okay, i'm in exactly the same predicament as i'm having a wrist tattoo in a few weeks and i'm TERRIFIED of the pain. So i went to see the artist that will be tattooing me and he advised that i use a cream called Ametop.
Now, Ametop works much better than Emla as it has a higher percentage of Lidocain (the numbing agent)
However, i trialled the Ametop last night and it really did work. I got one small tube which more than covered the area i'm having the tattoo on and i wrapped it in cling film. (You can't rub the cream into your skin otherwise it won't work, you need to spread it out a little but still make sure you have athick covering over the skin.) Plus you have to wrap it in cling film as it keeps the cream close to the skin and at a good enough temperature so that it works effectively. After that, leave the cream for about 45 minutes, then take off the cling film and wipe away any excess cream. I was literally stabbing my wrist with needles and pins and i couldn't feel a thing. I also scratched the area really hard (akin to a tattoo) and i still didn't feel anything. It stayed numb for about 4 hours which is more than enough time for a small tattoo.
Because it was recommend by my artist i'd have no problems using it and he'd have no problems tattooing the area. He's very reputable and very highly regarded in the tattoo industry, so he knows his stuff.
I paid about £5 for a small tube and it is SMALL. If you're having a large amount of ink then you may need 3-4 tubes, but it is well worth it. If you type it into Google, it comes up with all sorts of website that sell it. Either that or eBay, which is under skin numbing cream.
Good luck anyway and enjoy your new ink! xxx
The pain is half the tattoo! You can't just get rid of that. Its part of the process of getting a tattoo. You have to go through pain before you get something good.
Your best bet is to ask who ever you are going to to get the tattoo done. I think it will be ok and shouldnt effect the quality of the tattoo x
The best thing i have ever used is Preparation-H (yes, hemeriod cream!). It cools it down and has never effected any colour.
Hope you are pleased with it,
Hi There.
I'm told it works, but also, in my opinion, tattoos are more than just a picture or words. Its a symbol of your dedication to what you believe in. Enduring the fire is all apart of that dedication... At the end of the day, it might not hurt as much, but it might not mean as much for you either. I know I would probably be dissapointed with myself if I had my skin numb when I got my tatts.
Just a personal opinion, of course.
As far as cream's go, I have been told it doesnt really matter what you go with, as they all seem to have the same effect. I'd ten to go for a scentless one, if possible. If your tattooist is anything like mine, they would probably take offense to a numbing cream. :)
Hope this helps!
Ask the tattoo artist who is going to do the work because their preferences vary. My husband is a tattoo artist and at the last shop he worked at all of the artists preferred not to tattoo people who had used numbing cream. However, I have heard of shops where the artists actually recommend it. So I guess it is all personal preference.
Personally I wouldn't bother with it. Tattoos aren't excruciating enough that I feel like numbing is necessary. I have the insides of both of my wrists tattooed and I didn't think it was that painful at all.
edited to add: I completely forgot to say that numbing creams often only last about 30 minutes or so, so if the tattoo takes longer than that you will still experience some pain. The stories I have heard indicate that this can actually make things worse because when you tattoo without any numbing you can adjust to the pain and your endorphins have a chance to kick in - when you numb yourself up and it wears off not only are you experiencing the pain of the tattooing but also the soreness of the area that has already been tattooed. So essentially you get to experience all of the pain you "missed" all at once because you haven't had a chance to get used to the sensations. Again, this is all anecdotal stuff I have heard. Naturally there are people for whom stuff like EMLA was great and gave them no problems, I have just heard a lot fewer of those stories.
Emla
dont put any cream on before you get a tattoo.. Ask your artist he/she will tell you NO WAY. Thats lame . the needle is going to go into your skin and go up and down and up and down and you are going to bleed the cream will go into your skin. =( ewwwwwww
