Man Pays Library 1, 47-Year Late Fee - Oddities - redOrbit:: HANCOCK, Mich. - Robert Nuranen handed the local librarian a book hed checked out for a ninth-grade assignment - along with a check for 47 years worth of late http://www.redorbit.com/news/oddities/791689/man_pays_library_171ex.html?source=r_odditiesHOME | I'm trying to track down the source of this and I'm wondering if anyone else has seen the problem. Basically I create a new source, add the IMDB scraper to the source and let it run. My library is populated just fine and everything seems great... Now fast forward an unspecified amount of time and I see the following:
1. Scan for new content is missing from the context menu for the source in file mode at the root (where all your sources are located)
2. Choosing "Movie Information" in Library prompts you with a Text input window that shows the title of the movie you are watching. Clicking done just brings the same text input up regardless if you input the name correctly or incorrectly.
Sorry to be vague right now, I'm trying to see if anyone else has seen these issues before... I'm trying to replicate them so I can pull log files for exactly when it happens, etc.
My bad, it's <thumb>url</thumb><thumb>url>
All I was trying to do here is let the OP know there is a way to do what they want but due to this being actively developed code if they spend a few days doing all this for a thousand plus movies, at some point they _may_ have to redo it. I'm not trying to provoke a fight or anything :)
It's rare that I want to do something in xbmc that hasn't already been thought of and implemented, I've been using xbmc since the days when PM1 was the default skin, it is one of my most used apps (and the only thing I run on my xbox now). I've been evangelical about it for years and have persuaded many people to buy xbox's (and now mac minis) just to run it :) NAMM Oddities 2008 - Percussion:: Barry Woods NAMM Oddities - 2008 Winter NAMM Show - Percussion I wonder if Pintech will offer a library of multi-sampled ducks in distress? I'm having the exact same problem.
In addition; i add a new moive to my Movies folder that is set to be scraped by the imdb scraper or a new episode to my TV Shows folder that is set to be scraped by the tvdb, then launch XBMC and nothing happens. library options is set to update the library at launch.
i have to go up to the file viewer and set the content again on these two folders. it works then..
i'm guessing more people arew having this problem..
I too have similar problems - Set up new drives, set content, and scan.
Some titles are not brought into the file or library list and I can't get them in. About 3% of the titles.
Some titles are brought in with wrong name. Adding (date) to the source file and updating library seems to fix many but not all. Some that are released outside the us or have had the name changed come up wrong. Changing title in XBMC doesn't bring over the right data all the time. And when I update library the name I changed it to doesn't stick and resets itself.

doubt it runs on macs
nfo's wont break - thats the beauty of xml. worst case you will be missing some tags.
plus you can use the nfo app instead of chopping it up manually.
There's an gui front end "NFO app" fro Mac?
jeremy, just use TextEdit and save it as an .nfo file....
You could scan your library, let IMDB do it's thing Beneath Castle Crests Crags - Vol. 6, No. 4, 1933:: Nature Notes From Crater Lake, a journal of Crater Lake National Park natural Library > Nature Notes > Vol. 6, No. 4, Sep. 1933 - Crater Oddities: Beneath http://www.craterlakeinstitute.com/online-library/nature-notes/vo4-castle-crests-crags.htmHOME |
Make all the corrections you want so it is how you want it to appear.
Export your library.
This will give you a big xml file with all of your library in it.
Chop up that file into individual moviename.nfo files and put them with your movies.
That will give you all of the imdb info, your corrected titles and the ability to set your own genres/ratings/thumbnails etc.
It's painful and slow but once its done, its done (until they change the nfo file layout after a database schema change)
Understood. And I have renamed the titles. But when the library next updates it reverts back to the IMDB naming thus overriding the name change I make prior using the context menu.
Ahhh now thats a bug!
Is there another way to hard code it. IE putting some sort of tag or info file along with the actual file so that XBMC uses that data instead of the result from IMDB for that file only. Having to sort through a list of thousands of files and manually change each one every time the library is redone is a pain.
Yes, it's in the Manual somewhere. You can have files that contain the data you want... I don't have time to find it right now though.

Umm what about back when the actors were held as
actorname as role, actorname as role, actorname as role

Back to the original topic of missing movie info, etc. I think I've narrowed it down a little... my library worked FINE for 24 hours until I ticked the "Update Library at startup" and restarted XBMC. Now "Scan for new Content is gone" and Movie Information just gives me the endless loop of text prompt..
The xbmc.log file from my session that screwed everything up is here:

But then this starts to sound more like a feature request and thus not for disucssion here. =)
Yeah you totally derailed my original post :;):
Its grabbing the correct info as requested... Arthur And The Invisibles (2006) is a French Movie hence the French title. Fearless and The Host both fall into that catergory.
Renaming your Movie Title using the context menu in Library view is a great solution. :)
Understood. And I have renamed the titles. But when the library next updates it reverts back to the IMDB naming thus overriding the name change I make prior using the context menu.
jeremy i'm not sure if this answers your question or not, but in the past when I have scraped IMDB and then needed to make adjustments to the title, in Library Mode I pulled up the context menu for that particular movie and selected "Edit Title."
Not sure if that's available when you're in File mode (XBMC is being used right now so I can't check), or if that's what you're trying to accomplish...
Yes, it's in the Manual somewhere. You can have files that contain the data you want... I don't have time to find it right now though.
I've been going through the manual and haven't found anything yet. If someone know's where to find the information, please put up the link.
Thanks all.
sure, just wanted things to be correct - the <thumb> stuff is what i meant with xml safe xml code
That's because what is in IMDB is that title. To see what you're actually doing to scrape from IMDB search for yourself... see what the top hit is. That is what XBMC will pull up. So for the first one you get:
http://imdb.com/title/tt0344854/
There is nothing the dev team can do about that short of editing IMDB ;)
I would think there could be a checkbox to "Maintain folder naming" which would pull the IMDB metadata but use the naming convention you have in your folder (or filename).
This is also helpful for when you want titles to appear together but their not Movie 1, Movie 2, Movie 3, etc. IE The Indiana Jones, Fantastic Four, & Jurrasic Park movies get sorted into different places because of how their named. This also is helpful when you might have different versions of the same movie.
It would save a load of time in renaming everything in XBMC that you've already renamed in the OS directory structure.
But then this starts to sound more like a feature request and thus not for disucssion here. =)
make a file called moviename.nfo
stick the imdb url in there. all set. or the full information in xml format if you prefer - it's all in the wiki
I can get it pull the IMDB data or put in my own data. IE with just the IMDB title link or XML data.
Is there a way to have it pull the IMDB data as usual. Since in some cases it pulls the right movie info, but force a manual overide of the title for foreign titles or movies that have a different name between video / theater.
I tried just saving the .nfo (matching the file name) with only the following info hoping it would overide the title displayed in OSXBC but pull the correct info from IMDB. It pulled the correct IMDB info but didn't display the desired change in title.
MOVIE TITLE DESIRED
Any help?

Thanks for the help. I know that can be done. I'm looking for a way to hard code it with .nfo file or similar that can be saved and accessed via XBMC each time the library is done from stratch.

Here's examples of how adding the (date) doesn't fix issues. It'll pull the correct movie data, but not the correct USA title. This seems to be becuase of the way XBMC hits up IMDB and how IMDB displays the result. Whats the work around though?
Folder name "Arthur And The Invisibles (2006)" scans into OSXBMC Library as "Arthur et les Minimoys"
Folder name "Jet Li's - Fearless (2006)" scans into OSXBMC Library as "Huo Yuan Jia"
Folder name "Host, The (2006)" scans into OSXBMC Library as "Gwoemul"
I've got other examples where it won't even pull the correct movie at all because it's not hitting the USA titles.
fine, if you REALLY want to argue. sure, the cast tags might have broken at that point but the rest didnt. the nfo file didnt crash the app, you just got some bad info. in any case i dont feel a tiny weeny bit sorry for you.
We have the same situation now with
url,url,url,url
I get the feeling it will become
url
url
url
At least it should if we want the xml to be correctly formatted!
No need to feel sorry for me, I only have to do this for pr0n and a few movies, imdb finds almost everything I have correctly. Fell sorry for the OP lol

Yep, I am experiencing the exact same problems as you guys.
I never used the application on the original Xbox, so am not really sure what to expect, but have been using osxbmc for the last few releases and have never been able to get my library to function perfectly.
Following the instructions on the Wiki I add my sources & set my scraper settings, for both Tv series and Movies. I go into the folders and make sure it has grabbed all the relevant information.
When I switch to Library mode I get a variety of outcomes, mostly nothing appears, sometimes everything shows up but when I click 'Movie Information' it brings up the option to type the name, hit enter and it does nothing...
Some days I can get it to work, but when I close and relaunch osxbmc I am back to square one again...
Figured out HOW this is happening... Sooo if you are seeing the following:
1. Movie Information doesn't work in Library mode.
2. Scan for new content not present in context menu of selecting a source.
3. New content not adding to Library.
The culprit is the "Update Library" context menu in the library and/or the "Update Library at startup" setting under Video -> Library. Running either of these will pretty much break your library. So for now the steps to avoid this are:
1. Remove ~/Library/Application Support/XBMC
2. Start XBMC, re-setup sources, etc. Make sure NOT to turn on Update library at startup.
3. Quit XBMC, Make a copy of ~/Library/Application Support/XBMC You can put this back later if your wife clicks "Update Library".
Now You should have a working library, sources added and everything is great... now you might ask how you add new content? Go to Videos and file view. Bring up context menu a source and click "Scan for new content". This menu item will safely update your library without messing up settings.

that's not the format - the format is (xml safe xml code for all the thumbs) and i doubt it will change due to the way things work in code

From what I've found thus far is if you toss your entire ~/Application Support/XBMC folder all this works again (including adding new movies). Try it. Keep a close out and see if you can figure out at what point the setting go astray..
make a file called moviename.nfo
stick the imdb url in there. all set. or the full information in xml format if you prefer - it's all in the wiki
Perfect. That was enough to find in the wiki manual. Thanks !
Nice work iordonez, I have been going round in circles trying to maintain a consistent library - will give this a go tonight...
