Hi,
how you doing? Just watching The Scrubs and curious if your avatar is from down there :)
:-? :D
Perhaps Animal is the Simon Cowell of Ext :)
perhaps?
Hey there, just got back from beating some newbies up for not reading the manual ;) bit tired now... Does that mean you are now an international jetsetting Ext guru?
Although I like the way you respond to stupid questions I'd love to see more Cox'ish rants from you.

I have to say, that I am very much the newb when it comes to ext and javascript and I've asked a lot of questions and Animal has been a great source of answers. And not once have I received any kind of RTFM or condensending response from him.
Maybe I'm just lucky, or I actually tried to figure it out on my own before asking, dunno. animal,
Happen to know where Jack is? I have noticed he has not been around for the past couple of weeks on the svn and forums and was wondering if he is ok.
He seems to not have been around for a while. I don't really know where he's been.
I hope he moves back into full time development soon. It's been moving slowly without him!
I'm not part of the Ext core development team, so I don't know what's going on. I'm just a volunteer with a full time job too. Thats partly the reason that I sometimes respond a bit harshly.
I think there are a lot of people that see these examples and think they can program but never done anything before and it is not like you can pick up and start to program without patience and or expierence. I have been programming for 15 years now and through many different languages. There are still things I don't get sometimes and really hate it when you see these people that just say DO my work for me. My replys are more like. Have you read the source code at least twice? Have you read every piece of doc, have you read the source of every example and understand how it works? Have you written test cases and not just say let me do something I have no idea how to do. SOrry. I am gonig on and on......
I try to spend at least 1 to 2 days trying to resolve my issues before I post a question.
Animal. You have been helping people for months now and to me it keeps you sharp on Ext by testing your knowledge. Copy pasting learning is not a good way to learn anything and if they think you are to harsh then they can just figure it out themselves. haha

I actually find Animal's posts to be very entertaining, because they are either very informative and life saving or very sarcastic funny. I have actually a goal to read all of Animal's post on the forum. I would want your autograph :).

:))
I remember my early days with EXT vividly and love to provide help to folks. But I want to see that folks made an effort to solve their issue. This way they actually learn EXT :)
^^^ It could also be people wanting everyone to do their work without them lifting a finger. Like the folks who say -
Can I fly to the moon? Can you show me how?
... or I actually tried to figure it out on my own before asking, dunno.
There you go.
And that is the only thing that the support-people (and anyone willing to help) requires from you. If you're still stuck, or need further clarification, the forums (Animal included) are here to assist and enlighten you, and if I may say so: I think they're doing a great job! =D>
I'm sorry if I made anyone think otherwise.
Although I like the way you respond to stupid questions I'd love to see more Cox'ish rants from you.
I.e.
"Hey Claire. That question was so stupid that we actually have to redefine the word stupid. In fact, I'm having trouble finding something more stupid. I actually thought, for a mere moment there, that driving 200mph without a seatbelt and deliberately crash into a concrete wall COULD be classified as more stupid. But then I reread your question.... I vote that we introduce the word normstupid and reserve the word stupid to everything that comes out of your mouth, so that when kids in kindergarten first hear the word stupid they can respond quickly with 'hey now, im not as stupid as bone, i prefer the term normstupid'. Also, I reeeeheheheeeeeeaally hate the fact that instead of trying to learn yourself, like everyone else did, you come in here and EXPECT us to solve your simplest problems. To be quite honest I'd like to name a few things I find more entertaining, and rewarding, than answering such questions: loosing my hair, premature ejaculation, finding out too late that the woman I invited home wasn't a woman, hitting myself with a sledgehammer, pulling teeth, cutting myself on paper, coding in assembler without the docs and the list goes on and on and on and on and ....' *exit*
^^
"Hey, I want to create an application for teh interweb using ext. the application needs to be like this; grid in the middle showing everything, advertising on the top (that fetches url from a database), an iframed west-area (floating) that shows the properties of the selected row (updating realtime) and a right area that automatically generates money and transfer it to my paypal account. i need to write this using dhtml, ext, perl and oracle. what i need is the source for a working example of this. plx help im noob"
~o)
But to continue what the dj and mike said; its pointless to learn mountainclimbing by starting on the south side of Kilimanjaro (assuming its the worst side). I guess what I'm trying to say is that its way more rewarding to learn a new language by struggling and thus learn the hard way how its done, rather than screaming help before even attempting to write a line by yourself.

that ain't so bad.

it's practically "please take me to the moon somehow". :))

You and I are on the same page about this :)
The biggest way i can defend the noobs is that you don't know what you don't know. Like where to start when you want to do something. Many folks will go out there and see the desktop example and try to learn EXT via that code - not very smart. I'm very glad i jumped on the yui-ext bandwagon in august/september of 06. I've learned so much since then. But i remember being frustrated by not knowing where to look for things, etc ;)
