Well, I have to say my dad is the same way, when somebody is bad on the road he just assumes that they are Asian. But I have to say that I find most adults are like that, they grew up in a different world, they were never so harshly disciplined about how everyone is equal. Now a days kids are constantly told that everyone should be treated equally and that nobody is below you, but back then they didn't grow up being told these things. Tell your grandpa and your mom that it bothers you and just let it go.

You need to understand that they are of a different generation, particularly your grandpa. When he was young he probably never even encountered any gay people and didn't really think that many of them even existed. I am in my sixties and can tell you that that was my experience. It's a generational thing. Parents are usually different from their kids. I'd just let it go. Sometimes people find it comforting insulting things they don't know about, but there's nobody named "Jeff" on Will and Grace.
Well, unfortunately older people grew up in a time where gays and lesbians were not ok and also in a time where A lot racism was going on. It is hard to teach a old dog a new trick... When someone is brought up to think a certain way, it is some times hard for them to think any different. You should just state your opinions about everything and just ignore them. I am a lesbian and deal with rude and small minded people every day, its hard at times, but there is nothing that can be done about it. There is always going to be someone who thinks they are bigger and better than someone for some kind of reason. Whether is be racism, religion, gender... anything! Good luck doll!
You can't change the way people are. But it's good that you understand right from wrong. U got a good concious. Why don't u point out at the next joke that its wrong. They may act mean after that and you'll feel left out, but trust me on their insides they will feel awkward and hatefully guilty which will probably make them stop it a bit which is the first step.
