Web server functionality may not work correctly after you install :: Discusses a scenario where the Web server functionality of your computer may not work correctly after you upgrade default port 80, open port 80. To do http://support.microsoft.com/kb/883607HOME | I am on DSL and using a Zoom X5 modem with Outpost running in stealth mode. When I did a test on Shields UP, it showed port 80 as open. In fact, ports 21, 23, 80, 135, 137, 138, 139, and 445 are all open in the router, so Shields UP reads the results as all of the ports are closed with the exception of the ports that I listed above. Those ports show stealth except port 80, which shows as open.
Last year, I had a Zoom X3 modem, which also had those ports open but Outpost stealthed all of them.
What I don't understand is, why Outpost isn't stealthing port 80 on this router. I don't think I have anything running that would keep port 80 open. If it's a setting in the router, my ISP has it passworded so I can't get into it. Just curious as to why. How to: Configure a Firewall for Report Server Access:: reports are accessed through URLs that specify an IP address, port, and virtual directory. Thanks, Manny. I totally forgot about the IP address of the computer being different. Too many things going on this week.
Also check off "block WAN requests" in your router admin. It is your router being scanned and not, as Manny said, your computer. My Linksys router used to have a few ports showing closed instead of stealth but a firmware upgrade took care of that. Now all is stealth at GRC. When I bypass the router with a direct connection, Outpost stealths everything. Outpost can't do a thing for your router. It has no control over it. Please see 1.
No. When ShieldUp tests your router's IP and sees an open port it will tell you that. That site will not test another IP address which your computer has. It only tests the router. If you hold your cursor over the IP icon in the system tray you will see the IP address of your computer. You will notice that it's not the same as the one tested. The reference I gave in my previous post gives a fuller explanation and even GRC says this in a way: http://www.grc.com/faq-shieldsup.htm#015
As far as Outpost goes, it will block any unsolicited traffic. You should see that in the blocked logs. Blocking that traffic has no impact on the test results though. ShieldsUp still saw that your router had that port open even if OP blocked the traffic.
If you really want to test how OP does use a dialup modem to get to ShieldsUP. Even here your ISP may have closed some ports as well. Which means that you may not see all ports stealthed.
By the way having so many open ports on your router is unsafe. Why not go into its configuration and close them. I believe you said your ISP did this. Then I suggest you call them and ask them to modify the settings.
I'm not sure I'm asking this right. I know that it can't do anything for the router but what I'm asking is, if the port on the router is open, isn't that where Outpost would come into play and then the port would read as stealth?
