origin of term "north cacalackey"..where did it originate from and why
or how from north carolina to north cacalackey??
I've never heard this term before, but it sure sounds like a
bastardization of the german word "Kackerlacke", which means
cockroach. (pronounced kakerlakey, or kakelakey if the r is not
articulated well, very common if the speaker's native language is
English. I'm guessing that it's a derogatory term...
Having encountered the so-called "Palmetto bugs" of South Carolina,
which are actually huge roaches, I vote for the cockroach origin of
