Outpost 2.1 German translation errors
Published by: webmaster 2009-01-07
  • hi community,
i found three bugs in the german version of outpost 2.1.
i have read that bugs should be reported to agnitum directly, but i don't know if someone has already reported these things...

    1st (Cosmetical)
The word "Regel-Assistent" (Rules Assistant) in Outpost's Statusbar has a square behind the "-" (possibly to do a line break / i can add a screenshot if needed)

    2nd (Translation)
In the Log cleaner Settings "days" are translated as "MB" (translated text: Delete Entries older than xx MB)

    3rd (Function / most important)
you can't set up the sensitiveness of the component control if you set the language to german - there is only one entry called "keine Fehler" (No Error)

Beside of that: the (or some, i'm not sure) german umlauts are displayed wrong during the installation.

Should i send an email to the support?
    Thanks for reading :)

    My System:
Windows XP Pro SP2 (beta) / system & beta are both german
    Outpost 2.1.292.3816 (307) / german ui enabled
    - filetnt version 2.1.307

BTW: is it possible to change my nickname here or do i have to setup a new account?

    === EDIT =================
i updated outpost on my 2nd pc too and all the things posted above are there too and this pc does not have the sp2 beta installed

  • @dominus
that's my bug #2 (see first post)

  • @philg
regarding your e404-problem: i think you should try to deactivate (or just purge) the dns-chache in outpost and check if this problem still exist...

  • Hello there MisterB! Long time no see! :)

I would advise that you contact Agnitum (www.agnitum.com/support/supportform.html) to report any bugs. As for user name changes, that is best left to the Forum Admins - I would suggest that you send a PM to David or MegaHertz.

  • The longer I use 2.1 the more translation errors I find. Of course I only remember the last seen (*Dominus kicks his brain)

    - in the Log-Viewer-Cleaner dialog you have the nice option to
"Lösche alle Einträge die älter sind als x MB"
(delete all entries that are older than x MB)

  • Das könnt ihr selbst korrigieren:

    - Outpost abschalten
    - engine.de in Texteditor öffnen
    - Zeile str600="Kein Fehler" ändern in str600="NormalnMaximalnAus"
    - engine.de abspeichern
    - Outpost wieder starten

  • PhilG,

A long startup time may be due to a large logfile. Check the size of the op_data.mdb file on your Outpost folder. If this is especially large, you can delete it (disconnect from the Internet and shutdown Outpost first) if you do not need the log data - check the FAQ section for a method of disabling logging and note that 2.1 offers log file size control...

With network connection problems, you need to check your Blocked and Attack Detection logs. Please post entries listed there and confirm which version of Windows you are using. Please also open a new thread for this since this is nothing to do with Outpost 2.1.

  • THX a lot, I will try it.
2.0.239 still seems to have a couple of bugs.
I have to start it in service mode, because the time until the tray symbol appears and the program is running, is much too long, but when starting in service mode, my process viewer shows a strange path for the plugins, see attached image.
So I don´t know if I can trust them to operate the way they should, because this are the only processes showing this kind of path.
Sometimes the program behaves in a strange way, for example often I suddenly can´t open many websites anymore.
I get the message : "Site not found".
When I disable OP, the site is reachable, after closing the connection and reconnecting it is working fine again.

  • PhilG,

As mentioned in the Outpost 2.1 - what to expect (http://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9474) thread, Outpost 2.0 was released in May 2003. Anyone who purchased version 2.0 then or later should be able to use their key for 2.1 since they will still be in the 1-year upgrade period (and 2.1 will show you when your current licence expires).

Only those who purchased Outpost 1.0 more than a year ago will not be able to use their key - they should consider uninstalling Outpost completely (using the Extended Outpost Uninstall/Reinstall Instructions (http://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7188)) and then installing 2.1 to get a 30-day trial.

    Ich hoffe das hilft...

  • hi paranoid,
i already reported the things i found to agnitum's support and all the other posts written in german are explanations how to fix the translationerrors by yourself... :)

    @posts written in german
i think we should provide a translation in order that non-german readers can understand what we are talking about :)

  • Kann ich meine 2.0 Pro eigentlich mit 2.1 updaten oder ist eine neue Lizenz fällig.
Ich habe keine Lust mir meine jetzige Installation mit einer 30 Tage-Trial zu verderben.

    Danke

    PhilG

  • Everyone please note that translation errors need to be reported to Agnitum (www.agnitum.com/support/supportform.html). Since this thread seems to be focusing on German translation, I will change the thread title accordingly...

  • hi paranoid,
thanks for your fast reply :)
i will send my above post to agnitum now and will ask one of the admins later to change my name (first i have to look if my new nick isn't already registered by another member :D)
    have a nice day :)

    === EDIT =========
mail sent to agnitum support :)

  • what do you mean with the sensitivity of the components control? What is the German name for that function? Asking this to see that behaviour myself on my German installation.
