| Outpost 2009 certain logs empty | | Published by: jack 2009-01-07 |
| Many logs show up empty in the event viewer, even though the logging settings are configured for maximum.
These are Firewall, Mail, HTTP log, Blocked content, Anti Leak control.
Is this normal or something is wrong with my setup?
I'm specifically concerned about the Firewall and HTTP log sections, there should be some entries there for sure right?
I'll try the scheduler approach but the problems seems to be, if Outpost startup mode is set in normal mode, it starts op_mon.exe on its own, but no logs available. If it put Outpost in background mode, I cant seem to start op_mon.exe with admin privileges either manually launching it or by a shortcut in startup group. The process runs and shows in process manager but neither the tray icon nor the windows appears anywhere...
I'm guessing the problem has to do with either, op_mon.exe not running under your user account (process manager doesnt show up its user name for it in my setup?), or with the fact the logs folder is located inside the outpost folder in program files and for some reason you cant change or even access the permissions for that folder (could it be because Outpost self-protection?). I think the logs folder should be moved to the User's account folder to avoid these UAC Vista troubles, but I doubt we as users can do that, I guess Outpost developers should do the change.
Hardhead, could you explain the "scheduler" process to make this work, thanks.
I also have the same problem and reported it to beta team and I was told it was not a bug but I beg to differ.
so next version released will be free from this issue :)
Well that explain's why reininstalling Op didn't fix it !
Thanks for the info Njoyslife.

"In Windows, when a process creates an instance of another process, such as Outpost is doing with op_mons, it passes its default set of permissions over to the child - since Outpost runs at your regular user level access, so does op_mons.

And it will work fine. But i dont think this is correct!
It should work with normal accounts also!!!!

Yep new version will fix that issue. :D
Sorry I didn't add much about what you can do to see logs but this will work.
Bet you're running Vista.
Right click on icon in systray and disable and then go to start/programs and right click Outpost and run as admin and then you will see all logs.
Hi,
I've just installed OpPro 09 on VistaBusiness & I have the same problem, even with the admin acct.
And only by exiting Op from the trayicon (and therefore stopping the service) & then runas an admin shortcut of OpMon do I see the logs. As previously mentioned.
Has anyone found why this happens & got it to work properly. (there dosen't seem to be blocks in the A/L log )
I did have this problem before with XPPro. When I went from Op 4 to Op5 or whatever....so I went back to Op4 & waited a stable release when I finally upgraded to the current version. And all seems fine even in a user acct.
Which makes me think maybe I need a reinstall. I'll try that but in the meantime...Anyone with any other ideas?
Regards
Thank you for your message.
We are aware of this issue, and would like to apologize for its existence in the current version of the program. It is already fixed in one of the internal builds, so next version released will be free from this issue. We kindly ask you to be patient and wait for the next version. Sorry for this inconvenience. :)
Best regards,
Alexander.
Thanks for the help.
Any idea how to do this automatically? So op_mon runs always as an admin without having to close it and run it manually?
I tried to put outpost in background mode and then run op_mon with a shortcut in start up folder but it didnt work (it runs but it doesnt show up anywhere).
Use at your own risk!!!!
I have not tried this but you can give it a whirl and see if it works.
Find the the op_mon.exe file in C:Program Files right click it, click PropertiesCompatibility and tick the Run as Administrator box under Privilege Level, click appy and ok.
